How many free agents have the Yankees lost in the last 10 years that they wanted to keep? Who says they really want to keep soto ? How do we know that this trade wasnt simply for a one year rental to sell tickets after losing 40% in ticket sales after last season? And btw they wanted to keep cano which is why they never traded him and they still lost him to free agency . And he was home grown . Heck over the last ten years , they have signed just 2 or 3 big name free agents that they tried for . And they almost lost judge and cole until hal stepped in the end . I am not saying they wont try to re sign him . Just saying until he is re signed , it is realistic to think that soto is a one year rental Wow ... Yankee conspiracy theory! I heard they didnt want the Padres to accept the trade offer. They made the offer to appease the fans but did not expect them to accept. Once it was accpeted the league stepped in and forced the Yankee to complete the deal. They've already told Boras they have no intention of making an offer and want him to seek a trade for his client

And bottom line until he is re signed he is a one year rental

If there is a good side to “the sign him, don’t sign him” conundrum it’s that the Yanks and Soto get a year to test each other out and see if there’s a fit. No need to fret about it now. Next winter will be a different story. I’m just going to watch the story unfold and hope we get a top season out of Soto…and win a LOT of games… exactly. other than a trial run run for both sides, trading for him and signing him are two separate things.
think the "idea" was to contend for a championship, WS or bust, but unless all the pieces fall into place regarding performance & injuries for a number of players, don't think we've done enough.
in the least trading for him, will make the team more competitive. the season will be more entertaining and we hopefully will have a realistic rooting interest deep into the season. enjoy the moment and worry about the following season next winter.

Its hard not to think that way after the last ten years . Besides the odds of hal opening his wallet enough to resign soto who is a boras client is not very good at all . I call it a realistic expectation until proven otherwise . How many free agents have the Yankees lost in the last 10 years that they wanted to keep?
Yep! Not many, over the last 10 off-seasons Cano is the only one that I can think of. Also, according to some in the media the Yankees offered Yamamoto a 10 year contract at 30 million per season. It's not like Hal isn't willing to spend.

And after letting the mets outbid him for yamamoto and soto being a boras client , i would think the odds of the yankees re signing him arent good at all . Like i said until he is re signed , its pretty logical to say he is a one year rental

Yankees stood firm on 300 mill and no signing bonus . Both offers from the mets and dodgers were 325 mill. Yamamoto chose the dodgers

You may be right but during those 5 years there is a decent chance he will be better than anyone in the yanks rotation not named cole

Carlos did finish in the top 6 in NL Cy Young voting in 2022 & 2021.
