I don't like anything about the reports that I have been reading. They are all very vague and include a lot of ifs and maybes. Personally I'd rather he had a tear, get surgery and likely comback stronger in a year or two for the remainder of his contract The latest reports for Cole's timetable is reportedly "hoped" to be around 10-12 weeks which is closer to 2-3 months then the 1-2 months originally reported. And does that mean Cole starts to throw again in 2-3 months? I've read nothing that says he will be pitching for the Yankees in 2-3 months They've said it's not torn ... but they havent said what the issue is? And there is also no certainty that Cole’s arm will respond to the prescribed rest and treatment. If after 10-12 weeks Cole still has an issue, will he need surgery? If so, we probably wont see cole again until 2026 sports.yahoo.com/yankees-proactive-following-gerrit-cole-131521775.html?Banking on the notion that Cole will be pitching like his Cy Young Award-winning self again by June, July or any time this season would be a potentially foolish mistake. Mets fans went through it for a couple of seasons, watching Jacob deGrom repeatedly sidelined with elbow issues until he finally blew out the ligament last season with the Texas Rangers, requiring the second Tommy John surgery of his career.

Though I like to be optimistic until I know something definitive, in the back of my mind I realize that the longer it takes to identify structural damage, the more inopportune moment for a blowout in the future, which could sacrifice more than just this season if the wait is a couple months. We saw something similar last year with Rodon, which was a continual stop and start merry-go-round, ultimately leading to being in poor physical shape once he was cleared. Right now, however, I am not certain what the Yankees can do except watch and wait and continue to get other scans and opinions. One thing about Cole, if he does in the end require Tommy John surgery, he is a mench about proper mechanics, and he may come back like Justin Verlander and win another Cy Young Award. One of the reasons young guys now get TJ surgery early is to be able to increase their velocity. One pitcher I have always liked is Nathan Eovaldi, who has pitched effectively after multiple TJ procedures. Eovaldi is a really good athlete with solid mechanics. He's still touching 99.
