Should Soto get a save?

Best part was he made a tough catch look relatively easy. Maybe not that tough, Statcast gives the XBA on that Tucker lineout as just .350. Got a very good jump on the ball...much tougher play for a LH. Judge wasn't even in the picture. Had that ball gotten by Verdugo Altuve would've scored and Tucker would've at least been on 2nd with one out. Not a web gem, but a very nice play at a critical time in the game. I'll second that. When I watched it live, it seemed like a pretty big play at the time, no matter what XBA says.

Definitely gets him a rARM in Defensive Runs Saved. And maybe deserves the save instead of Holmes, who didn't really have it today.

Who is the player of the game???? I'd give it to Soto for 2 walks, a hit, and the game saving defensive play! “Pretty good” throw, but Trevino’s tag made the play…

Verdugo's play was probably a game saver. It was an outstanding catch for sure. That’s a young inger catch, sir. He made it look almost as easy as young inger would have. Of course he didn’t whip a powerful thrown in behind a base runner and turn it into a double play, like young inger would have. He only throws 96 MPH…

And a fine mid-season form HBP by Rizzo! …

Keep it up bro. Amazing how you can keep so many balls in the air at once. I am picturing a room full of monitors and a research staff feeding you stats instantaneously. You earn that handle Qwik for sure. Great work. Thank you. Just one monitor, but 6-8 tabs I keep open. One for Fangraphs for pitcher repertoires. Two for Rotowire for batter vs. pitcher head to head for both teams. One for Gameday to check strike zone on close pitches and exit velocity, and keep track of pitch counts. And I forgot to open one for Baseball Savant Statcast K zone, batted ball data and pitcher stats (Called strikes and whiffs, total and the various types of pitches) One for the game chat page, of course. Do you ever get to watch the game? Or is someone behind you doing play by play? Sounds frenetic… 😂

Unexpected defensive play, typical good at bats all game long, making their pitchers throw a lot of pitches.

So glad to see they won. We were out with friends and missed after it was 5-4 and didn't find out the final until I got home. I did record it. Nestor was shaky but the team offensively did everything to and came back. Pen held them and got the W. Great Opening Day with many contributors.

Wow, Wow, Wow! For those of you who are new here, thank you for an exciting game thread! Quik, I would especially like to extend my appreciation - your play by play was wonderful, as even though I had to work today, I am in Dallas and always blacked out from watching anytime the Yankees play Houston or Texas, no matter if the game is at home or away. Being able to enjoy the game thread and the energy from our little band of Yankees fans - a pleasure indeed! After work, I went to meet my old LSU college roommate in Fort Worth for dinner, and I had no idea the score of the Yankees's game. So, being able to click from page to page without knowing the result was nearly as nerve-racking as if I was watching the game live. I have been very optimistic about this team, even with the injury to Gerrit Cole. This is such a better balanced group with Verdugo (a real left-fielder) and Soto's professional at bats. Volpe is maturing in front of us, Rizzo is back to being Rizzo, and Oswaldo is now on pace for 153 home runs (you know Boone will enslave himself to the predetermined rest schedule no matter how hot a player is). I'm wondering if I will be blacked out tomorrow if I tune into Apple TV? Even with a VPN? If so, I'll try any disreputable and moderately reliable link provided by Kaybli. Great way to start the season and to building a winning culture around this newly minted Yankee team.
