“The one big thing that I see from that guy is he doesn’t try to hit fly balls,” Cabrera said earlier this month. “He’s not trying to hit the ball in the air every time. His hands just get quick to the ball. That’s what got my attention. He’s always trying to hit line drives." The difference between swinging a bat and hitting the baseball. We've lost a generation of hitters to swing-plane and trying to artificially import lift, as a result the bat does not stay in the strike zone as long, leading to a ton of strikeouts and non-productive outs. Soto should be signed for 50 million per year just for the impact he will have on the hitters and coaches around him and those coming up in the minor leagues. I think I said in one of the game threads that adding Soto reminds me of when they added Wade Boggs in 1993. The 1990-1992 had very low walk rates and weren't patient at all. Thanks to having too many hitters like Mel Hall and Roberto Kelly, they were 9th in the AL in pitches seen per plate appearance in 1990, 13th in 1991, and 9th in 1992, all below the AL league average. Aside from Boggs, they traded Kelly for Paul O'Neill, moved Bob Stanley in as the starting catcher for Matt Nokes and gave Bernie Williams the starting CF job. All of a sudden, they became a much more patient team, working the pitchers, getting runners on base, getting into the then much weaker bullpen depth throughout the AL. They moved above the league average in P/PA in 1993, finishing 4th in the AL, and were on their way to becoming the Dynasty Yankees that won 5 pennants and 4 World Series in 6 years. Boggs came along for the ride ... Please dont credit that filthy dirty Sock for the Yankees success.

Well, he was a key part of their title in 1996, but maybe Stick deserves a bigger share by concentrating on bringing hitters like that into the lineup.

Now I feel bad. I’m gonna call and ask the cops to come in without lights or sirens. No sense alerting the neighborhood. But she should get the crown 👑…And a good talking to by the arresting officer…whoever that may be… 🤓

I give Lola a pass, people should be posting in previous game threads when there's another game going on.

Just for the new posters here, we have a funny thing we do when someone posts in the wrong thread where we flash a sirens GIF and give them a "Wrong thread alert" and they have to wear an imaginary crown as king/queen of the wrong thread posts until the next time someone does it. All in good fun. Inger is the undisputed champion of the "Wrong Thread Alert" so don't worry if you have to wear the crown. Inger will take it back in a short time.
