I think that the A's should play at the Vegas AAA park and move their AAA club to another city. I hear Oakland needs a team? The original A’s should have just stayed put in Philly…

I like the idea of the A's moving to Vegas. Gives me another venue within 4-5 hour drive to catch the Yanks...just wish it was sooner. I’m only about 690 miles away. Forget that… 😂 I'm about 4 - 4 1/2 hrs away...about the same to San Diego & Anaheim, which is about as long as I care to drive these days. And I have relatives in the Kingman, AZ area...a little over 1/2 way. Can always stop over to visit. That said...5 years from now, who knows...

I'm glad Vegas isn't changing the name A's.

I'm glad Vegas isn't changing the name A's. How 'bout a compromise...Las Vegas Aces. Get rid of that pesky apostrophe...

What a joke.
The A's make the Arizona Coyotes look like a well run organization.

It is the playing in a minor league stadium (and the minor league team is not moving) that is wacky. I feel sorry for the A's but it amazing they did not leave decades ago. There were games in the 80's that only had a few hundred fans. Considering their past attendance the minor league stadium should be adequate. I guess the minor league team will work around it. Frankly, I'm not sure the owner deserves all the criticism...the Coliseum, or whatever it's called today, is the 1st or 2nd worst in MLB. Another thing that's always bothered me...why is there an apostrophe in the A's? A subject near to my heart, since my father grew up on a street directly behind the right field wall of Shibe Park where the Athletics played and was for many years a member and later President of the Philadelphia Athletics historical society. The first time I could find the random apostrophe was on the team logo (but not the uniform) starting in 1939. The first time it showed up on the cap and front of the jersey was in 1970. From their inception in 1901, the A's (using their term) had a large letter A on the front of the jersey and a white cap that was either blank or had stripes of varying structure. In 1920 the team started using an elephant instead of the letter A on the jersey. In 1929, one of the greatest teams of all time went back to the A on the jersey and put an A on the cap as well. It stayed that way until the move to Kansas City in 1955, when "Athletics" in cursive script went on the jersey, but the cap stayed with an A. They did variations of this until the early 60s, when they put KC on the cap. The first two years in Oakland in 68-69, they had "Oakland" in large print on the jersey and retained the "A" on the cap, until 1970 when they switched to "A's" on both. The elephant logo, in varying forms, was the unofficial logo from the start, and became official in 1920. It came from John McGraw deriding the franchise as "a white elephant with no money." Maybe McGraw was just 120 years too soon. The Athletics will have spent 57 years in Oakland as opposed to 54 years in Philadelphia and 13 years in Kansas City. Now three years in Sacramento and then on to Vegas -- I am fairly certain that no major professional franchise has played in five different cities (not counting local moves like the Giants to North Jersey or the Patriots to Foxboro, etc.) The Sacramento Kings have had four different incarnations in the NBA (Rochester Royals, Cincinnati Royals, Kansas City-Omaha Kings, Sacramento Kings) and there are probably others I'm too lazy to think about, but five seems to be the most.

It's amazing so many sports franchise have left Oakland. From NBA, NFL to MLB, seems a critical mass fan base is not there to retain them. Also the NHL. The California Golden Seals were one of the original six expansion teams in 67-68. They lasted nine years in Oakland, owned by Charlie Finley, before moving for two years to become the Cleveland Barons. The Barons franchise folded after the 1978 season, merged with the then Minnesota North Stars (now Dallas Stars.) The Barons are the last franchise to actually cease operations among the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. The Seals were noted for wearing white skates, which on TV blended into the ice and made it look like they were skating on stumps.

There is a widespread misconception that any word ending in "s" needs an apostrophe in front of it.

Something else that's always bugged me, for which I've never gotten a satisfactory answer... Why is the iconic interlocking NY logo different on the jersey in comparison to the cap and other places? Took out-of-town visitors on the Yankee Stadium tour several years ago...asked the tour guide why that is. He dodged the question...claiming they were the same. Obviously not...

I never heard an answer on that, but it’s been that way for a long time. Also the batting helmet NY looks slightly different from the cap or jersey.

Speaking of batting helmets...what does everyone think of the matte finish on "visitors" helmets? I like it...I like it a lot.
