Just too many games like this where the offense is shut down for long stretches, and it isn't always a good pitcher doing it. Too many cold bats right now.

Rizzo's hot shot to 1st was 109.5 mph, but nothing doing.

Caballero has never faced Santana. Takes a strike. Slider low and outside, 1-1. Squares and makes a perfect dump bunt past Santana to the left of the mound, Santana has no play falling off the wrong way, and Cabrera has to far to go from where he was playing deep. Bunt single. Man on 1st, nobody out for Rortvedt, who's also never faced Santana.

Sinker misses way outside to Rortvedt. Then Santana wheels and fires to first and Catches Caballero leaning the wrong way. He almost got back anyway, but he's picked off. 1 down.

Good catch and sweep tag by Rizzo, because the throw was at his body and not to his right. 2-2 on Rortvedt. Change hangs middle, and Rortvedt squibs it off the end of the bat, Cabrera playing to pull, it goes near the bag at 3rd, and by the time he gets to it, he has no chance to throw out Rortvedt. Very cheap infield hit, but it counts.

Diaz has faced Santana once, a HBP. 1-1 on Diaz.

Sinker with good movement ties up Diaz a bit, his sharp grounder makes Torres back up a bit, his backflip to Volpe is good, but Volpe double-clutches and must hurry the throw to 1st to just barely double up Diaz. Yanks nearly blew the gimme GIDP there.
Bottom 7, 1-0 Rays.

I’m liking Santana more than I expected to… He was regarded as a pretty good starting pitching prospect for the Dodgers a while back. Now making a career years later in middle-long relief.

Santana at 17 pitches for his 1 2/3 innings so far.
Torres, Verdugo and Trevino for the Yanks in the 7th. Chris Devenski, the ex-Astro, in for the Rays. He's been hit very hard so far this year, 12 hits, 4 HR and 9 ER in 10 innings so far.
Five pitch righty, throws the change almost half the time, FB about 31% at 92-3, Slider and cutter about 10% each and a very occasional curve
