Flies open and flips the FB way outside and up, 2-0
Look breaking ball here, Austin.
Drops a slider into the top outside corner, nothing he can do with that on 2-0, 2-1.
Misses the Fb at the very top of the zone, 2-2.
FB way up and away, ball 3.

Might be avoiding giving into him.
Volpe has faced him twice, one was a BB the other was a HBP, one was with the bases loaded and drove in a run.
FB down the middle, 0-1

He has to come in to you, Volpe, with Soto on deck.

Volpe has a chance to be the hero. Don't need him to be a hero, just need him to get on base for Soto. Curve near middle but at 73, Volpe is early, rolls over on it, to Caballero's right, he backhands, sets and throws out Volpe to end the 8th. Top 9, 0-0. Holmes was warming, and as there's no save situation to be had today, Boone can stay with Weaver and sit Holmes down for the day. Or go to Holmes and probably not have him tomorrow. |

Earlier this season, Volpe would have taken that to right field, instead of rolling over the pitch and trying to pull it to the left side. Huge hole between first and second wasted.

He'll face the 3-4-5, Ramirez, Paredes and Rosario.
1st pitch is inside, ball 1
2nd is a strike 1-1
Ramirez is 1-3 vs. Holmes, a 2B, a BB and a K.
Sinker down the middle at 97, but Ramirez swings over, 1-2
Sinker on his hands is tapped down 3rd, Cabrera charges, fields and takes a beat to get the grip, then throws a strike to Rizzo, 1 down.

Another great sinker by Holmes, 97 at the knees, swung over, 1-2
Very good sinker at 99 (!!), but Paredes spoils in the zone at the knees.
Slider outside and Paredes chases for the K.
Holmes stuff and command much better today than last night, at least so far. 2 down

Rosario 1-4 vs. Holmes with a K.
Swings over a sinker darting down and in at 97, 0-2
Loses a sinker up and in, 1-2
Sinker stays in the middle at 98, and Rosario is able to foul it off, Nearly got to it, still 1-2
Slider well outside is taken, 2-2.
One more good sinker, Holmes.

Sinker waist high inside, but Rosario inside outs it over Jones leap into right center for a single.
That pitch DID NOT catch too much of the plate, Jeff, It was inside corner, But Rosario was standing well off the plate and was able to inside out it.
