Without condoning nor condemning I would say the he bullpen decisions last night were made with regard to considering the remainder of the road trip. Take a chance on not going one more inning with Holmes and throw the dice on this one to assure of a stronger pen the rest of this series as well as the entirety of the Baltimore series. Not being able to see the future, if we take 4 of the remaining 6 he’ll turn out to be right. If we tank those games then he’ll be wrong. He’s information we don’t have, so it’s easy to second guess… My only probably is the Yankees grabbing everyone else's trash and thinking they can turn it into gold. Michael Tonkin??? Are you f***ing kidding me??????? What is he doing on this team???????? Why is he pitching important innings?????????? We already have a wasted spot with Weaver !!!!!!!! We have guys with potential in the Minors that are not getting these opportunities because of Michael Tonkins and Luke Weaver ... WTF ????

This is very telling why the Yanks have to worst extra-inning road record since the ghost runner became law of the land. Wow!!! Just Wow!

Exactly ... 3 Outs away from a road victory against a very good team and they put their fate in David Pumpkins hands ???

Based on what we know, I would have left Holmes in and attempted to secure the win as well. If he really had to come out, I would have used a different t pitched in that situation. Anybody that was breathing and hadn’t been used…

He's pitched ok in relief and can give us multiple innings. His stuff isn't bad.

And to think, we could have just kept Abreu… 🤓

Counting today he’s been very good in his last 7 outings. 11 innings, just 4 hits allowed. And to think, we could have just kept Abreu… 🤓 agree. he's been on a nice run. many folks look at him as a "wave the white flag" guy but he's been very good lately. his stuff seems to be playing up. maybe cashman did find something in one of his dumpster divesTM.
now i'm gonna put the asbestos suit on. while i would have let holmes go 2 innings, not gonna kill boone for not doing so. part of his job is to manage players' workload and protect them for the long haul. and yeah games in april do have meaning in october but the last time holmes pitched 2 innings was in the 2022 post season - emphasis on PS. and he'd rarely it done during the regular season, again having to go back to 2022. and to this point, he had appeared in half the games and was on an 81 game pace.
fans worry about burning out the pen and here people were clamoring for boone to "burn out" holmes. can't have it both ways. the pen was allegedly short but gonzalez was apparently available, so bring him in 9th inning and hold holmes out until at least the 10th when there's a chance he comes into the game to hold a yankee lead w the ghost runner thing. then if you're stuck, guess you bring tonkin in - the last available arm and hope for the best. agree w everyone - not sure why tonkin's even on the team. for sure a terrible loss. you can't be giving games away but in general, teams bend over backwards to protect their players and that was the call in this case even if it meant losing a "won" game.
regarding the trevino thing - yeah never like to see a position player pitch. while i'm sure weaver coulda thrown a third inning, now that he's become a more important arm out of the pen, why waste his innings in a blowout. it was suggested to have either trammel (or jones) pitch. guess he could have done that. but then trevino comes in anyway to catch and maybe you move wells to 1B and cabrera to RF. boone after i'm sure after some discussion w trevino, opted to have trevino pitch. not ideal, but 18 soft toss throws is unlikely to hurt a catcher who makes as many as 200 throws in a game.

Today game will probably be a blowout and the Yanks wouldn't have to use Holmes anyway. You called it! And, that's exactly what happend.

If it was a tie game I would understand if Boone didn't use Holmes. But he should have used him in a save situation against a pretty good team. The win was there for the taking and Boone let it slip away because he was thinking too far ahead about the future.
"Now trumps later every time. The future is a sucker's bet, a maybe, a contingency, a "What if?" The only thing that is real is the present".
