I am not one of those fans who blames the manager when a team isn’t doing well. After all the manager only has so much impact on the game, and the rest is up to the players playing well. So I have never been very hard on Aaron’s Boone in the past. But this year is really starting to get me angry. There have been multiple games now where he brings clay Holmes in the when the game is tied. Once to end up losing the game in extra innings every time because he used his best high leverage guy too early. Everyone knows that a clown is designed to keep your lead so you can win the game, their job is not to keep the game tied. Any big league pitcher should be able to keep the game tied. Not every pitcher can handle the stress of being up by 1 run in extra innings with a man starting on second base. Further proving my point is the fact that every time Boone has done this, the Yankees lost. And the fact he isn’t learning his lesson and adjusting makes it so much worse. Had Boone used a regular decent reliever when the game was tied, and saved clay Holmes for the when they had the lead in extra innings, we probably would have 4 or 5 more wins than we do. Can anyone explain what he was thinking?
On top Of this I just finished watching the game tonight, and Boone decided to bring In a brand new pitcher that just picked up in extra innings. Michael Tonkin? He was released from like 3 teams already this year for having like a 9 era. Why would you use your worst reliever in a tight game especially when you have never even seen him pitch before??
Then in the bottom of the 11th in a tie game the brewers had a runner on third with 1 out and Joey Ortiz at the plate who already had 2 hits including a home run and 3 rbis. And instead of walking him, to set up the doubl play and bring up the 9 hitter. He pitched to him, and Ortiz went on to walk it off.

I can't explain it, yankeekid93. Boone has shown time and again he has no feel for the game. He left Gil in too long, should have let Holmes go another inning, and giving Tonkin the 10th AND 11th was just asinine.
On a side note, sign up, and stick around!

I've put more blame on Cashman's team building than Boone but last night most of his calls backfired on him. I think the organization love's that Boone is a player's manager and bites the bullet for them.
When he brought Tonkin in to pitch I stopped posting and just sat on the couch waiting for the end.

Just listened to Tonkin's post game interview. It was as bad as he pitched. Where did Cashman fine this guy????

I expected Holmes to come out in the 10th, he obviously gave us the best chance to win. But, I also thought some of the guys who came in before us could have given us a bit more length. They seem reluctant to have anyone in the pen not named Weaver pitch more than an inning.

Holmes is starting to convince me that he can be a shutdown Closer. Gone is his wildness, and he's been having late movement in the strike-zone with his pitches.
He only threw 10 pitches the inning before and should have closed the game. I don't care if it's a game in April. That's a poor excuse for not using his Closer for a 2nd inning, because when wins and losses are tallied up at the end of the season, a win in April can mean just as much as a win in September.

Today game will probably be a blowout and the Yanks wouldn't have to use Holmes anyway.
I've said this before, but I don't think Boone is a good manager.

I think the bullpen usage is preplanned before the game and Boone rarely deviates from it. There's just no adjusting or adaptation from Boone.

Ba-Boone has solidified himself in the annals of dubious stewardship, especially for bullpen usage and starter development.

This is very telling why the Yanks have to worst extra-inning road record since the ghost runner became law of the land.

I have always been a believer that Boone makes no decisions that the computer analytics don't provide him. Because of that, I give him no blame nor do I give him credit for decisions. I will take a manager who goes with his gut once in awhile over an analytics guy any day.

The explanation is simple. Boone is an idiot.

Without condoning nor condemning I would say the he bullpen decisions last night were made with regard to considering the remainder of the road trip. Take a chance on not going one more inning with Holmes and throw the dice on this one to assure of a stronger pen the rest of this series as well as the entirety of the Baltimore series.
Not being able to see the future, if we take 4 of the remaining 6 he’ll turn out to be right. If we tank those games then he’ll be wrong. He’s information we don’t have, so it’s easy to second guess…
