Yanks rise from the dead (2 measly singles, one in the first, one in the second) to get 4 straight hits off Tigers' closer Foley in the 9th to pull off the unlikely comeback win, 2-1. Yanks get back to 8 over .500 at 21-13.
O's-Reds not rained out after all, just a very very long delay. That game now 0-0 top 5. Rays held on to beat the Mets 10-8. Jays lost to the Nationals, 9-3. Twins lead the Sox 2-0, bottom 7, looking for their 11th straight win.
If the scores hold, Yanks will either be tied again with the O's for 1st, percentage points behind, or still 1 game back. They'll pick up a game on the Sox and Jays, and will be 2 1/2 up on Boston and 5 1/2 up on both the Jays and Rays, who moved back into a tie for 4th with their win over the Mets.
============== Flats is immediately wrong. Judge's ball was hit very hard, too. Not just Stanton's.

Did anyone have any doubt Stanton would come through???? I'm still stunned.

3rd star of the game: Rizzo for the walkoff single with the infield in. Normally, a walkoff would be ranked with a higher "star", but all he needed was a medium deep flyball. 2nd star of the game: Stanton, whose double tied the game and left a great situation for Rizzo to capitalize on. 1st star of the game: all three relievers, especially Hamilton, who got out of the bases loaded 1 out jam, with the Tigers' lead still 1-0 to hold the game and give the offense enough time and chances to wake up and win.
Honorable Mention to Verdugo, whose brilliant perfectly placed and executed bunt single turned the momentum and put Foley and the Tigers back on their heels.

an amazing win. had thrown in the towel. 4 straight hits against a very good closer. huge hit by stanton and then rizzo through drawn-in IF. til then another frustrating nite for the offense. all is forgiven. bullpen w a solid 3 2/3 scoreless not letting the game get out of hand. AMAZING!!! Rizzo's favorite word!!! I was at the stadium a couple weeks ago for Photo day. We got to go out on the field ( warning track) and take pics with the players. I showed Rizzo a pic of his dog, Kevin. He's said... "That's AMAZING!" Lol!

He didn't want to get booed! The balls still flies off his bat when he actually makes good contact.

also a very big game for the defense. gleyber a great play on the SS side of 2nd making a great throw, judge runs down a flyball at the wall and rizzo's diving stop.
i'd probably give potg to stanton. that double broke the game open and set rizzo up. but yeah the bullpen was sterling. all 3 relievers. any way you slice it, a thrilling win and a throwback to how we were winning games earlier in the season.

Ok, Yanks pull off an improbable come-from-behind win on Rizzo's walkoff slap single through the drawn-in infield after the offense was dead to the world for 8 innings. Santana gets himself his 2nd win for the Yanks, and though poor lil' Reese Olsen pitched great again (his ERA is now down to 2.70 now in 6 starts) but the run the Tigers got for him in the 6th was just the 4th they've scored in his 6 starts while he was in the game, so he's still winless.
Game 2 is tomorrow at 1:07 on YES. Casey Mize, 1-0 with a 3.08 ERA in 5 starts, goes for the Tigers. Clarke Schmidt trying to back up his excellent start against the O's in Baltimore with another, goes for the Yanks.

Canucks advance with a 1-0 win in Game 6 Dallas is now trying to advance in two different sports at the same time. A lot of channel flipping going on down in Rizz's neck of the woods.

Tigers pen is 6th in the AL in ERA at 2.80, if anyone cares. They have 4 relievers having good/great seasons so far, including Foley, their closer who has 9 saves and a 1.32 ERA in 13 2/3 innings. Never been a bullpen built that couldn’t be beaten, even in MO’s bullpens… True. Wasn't implying that they couldn't be beaten, just that it would be tougher than usual. Tigers' good start based on tough pitching up and down their staff, as their offense is worse than the Yankees', and not by a little.

OK, I've caught up with replies, and I'm going to get going. That's it for me for tonight. See you guys tomorrow at 1:05 or so for Game 2, Mize vs. Schmidt. Good night to all of you (and this is a good night, indeed). Bye.
