Gil… 95 pitches. Third time through the top of the line up. He’s in stratosphere that the more experienced Schmidt can’t reach as he finished the inning… dominant throughout with just one early mistake to Tucker. No shame in that.
Now we should see the bullpen dregs come out…

A better slider on the low outside corner, Pena gets to it, hits a sinking liner to right, Berdugo hesitates maybe losing it in the lights a bit, than comes charging in to make a fine diving catch to end the inning.
Bottom 6, 7-1 Yanks.
14 pitches for Gil in the 6th, and at 97 pitches, his night is probably over.
Berti, Volpe and Soto for the Yanks vs. Scott in the 6th for the Yanks
Guentzal got his 2nd of the game, another late goal with 1:42 left in the period, and the Canes retake a 3-2 lead after two.

i know verdugo's just a placeholder until dominguez and spencer jones are ready but he's making a real case for the yankees to resign him.
