I have been trying to think of a 3rd baseman they could trade for, preferably a good left hand hitter who has a decent glove, but I don't think there's one available in MLB. That's what they need. A poor man's Rendon when Rendon was good.

Yikes, and he's hitting 5th tonight. To my eyes, the bullpen and 1B need addressed. Rizzo is done and he's not slick enough with he glove to make up for his dying bat.

Slag-arm...uh...Santana still in there K. Hernandez chases a cutter outside, 0-1 Rolls over on a slider, just foul off 3rd, 0-2

The Yankees look a lot like the 2023 Yankees with Soto on the shelf.

Fouls off a FB up in the zone, then another inner 3rd waist high, still 0-2 Slider low/away 1-2.

The Yankees look a lot like the 2023 Yankees with Soto on the shelf. Because good pitching takes away Stanton and diminishes Volpe, so yeah.

Maybe when the Reds get healthy, one of their many 3rd baseman might be available, but it will cost a good prospect. Taylor... Cutter low/away, ball 1 FB inside 2-0 Cutter same as the first, 3-0 Fb on the inside corner 3-1 Cutter down the middle, Taylor stares at it, 3-2 FB up in the zone, Taylor imitates a statue, ꓘ, 2 down.

Betts up. Cutter into the top of the zone, taken for a strike FB up and in, tapped to the right side, Rizzo has to come way off because Torres is playing near 2nd, and Sanatana caught in a coma, covers way late, so the throw is way late and not nearly in times, infield hit.

Way to hustle Santana, now you have to face Ohtani.

Unless Wells left with an injury, the Trevino substitution is an odd one. I guess they might want to give Wells a couple innings off and bring him back against Glasnow tomorrow, although it's a night game. Glasnow has a miniscule righty-lefty split as far as average, but lefties have a much higher OPS against. With Soto out of the lineup, the Yankees are very right-handed, and even the light hitting Wells might be an attractive option.

Santana made a rather violent split trying to stretch to tag first, they go out to check on him, but he's OK. Don't know if that's good or bad. Sinker low to Ohtani 1-0 Change misses inside, 2-0 Flies open, sinker up and away, 3-0 Cutter makes him jackknife as he takes it for ball 1st and 2nd, 2 down, Freeman up Blake out to practice some magic and transform Santana into Mariano Rivera, Jr. Or something. I have no idea. Give him a breather, maybe?

Way to hustle Santana, now you have to face Ohtani. When an already crappy pitcher doesn't show any hustle, that should be a ticket to DFA land. Speaking of DFA, I wonder if the Pirates have any of those mediocre pitchers they're ready to give up on. We seem to be pretty good at restoring them.
