Yanks answer the Sox run with 2 of their own, giving Gil plenty of rest. Yanks up, 5-1 going bottom 5. Yanks had the top of the order due in, and it responded, this half-inning, it's the Sox turn, as Duran, Hamilton and Devers get their 3rd look at Gil, who starts the inning already at 74 pitches. He needs a quick one… Swing Boston, swing… Leadoff, 6 pitch walk. Sigh. Hamilton... Slider into the top of the zone near middle, 0-1 FB tails well outside 1-1 Change hits the zone down and in, freezing him, 1-2 Bounces the change, 2-2 Throw over. Slider hooks into the middle, and Gil is lucky, he drives it to deep center, just got under it, Judge goes back to the edge of the track, catches, Duran goes back to 1st. |

Misses a hanging slider in the zone up and in, 1-1
FB at 97 just above middle, and O'Neill is late, popping it foul behind the Sox' dugout.
Slider hangs 3 inches high over the middle, 2-2
Slider on the corner away, letter high, fouled.
That was his 90th pitch tonight.
O'Neill takes his timeout as Gil comes set.
FB overthrown misses 5-6 inches above the corner away. If he walks O'Neill, Gonzalez comes right it.
But he swings over a good change tailing toward the corner inside for the K, 2 down.

He got O'Neill so with the 4-run Lead, Boone lets him try to get Devers, and five innings to qualify for the W.
Change clips the knees on the inner half, 10-20% strike
Misses a FB outside middle, 0-2
Change well low/away, taken, 1-2
FB inside and high, 2-2
FB inside corner fouled
FB letter high, inside, ball 3
Change missed inside thigh high, ball 4.
1st and 2nd, 2 down, Yoshida coming up, and Blake comes out to try and nurse Gil through the last out in the 5th.

Takes a striaght FB thigh high down the middle. DON'T THROW THAT ONE AGAIN!

Gil didn't have his best stuff tonight, but holds them to one run in five. Now we need four innings out of the bullpen. Not wild about that.
