Hi
A question about historic attendances at Yankee Stadium:-
Attendances since 1999 have averaged over 40,000 per game. In the 4th quarter of last century, the figure was about 25/30,000, with a high of about 32,000.
1962-1974 saw an average of closer to 15,000 per game (although one notes that this was a lean time for NYY)
The 3 decades before that shows average attendances ranging from the low teens to a high of barely 30,000, including 4 seasons of <10,000.
So the trend over the last 70 years is one of markedly rising attendances over the period. Baseball admission prices are certainly no more affordable than was the case 30/40/50 years ago, and the proliferation of alternative forms of entertainment (video games etc) together with the expansion of TV coverage must surely also have served to constrain growth in baseball viewings.
So what has been the driver for this huge rise in attendance at The Stadium? Can somebody plz spare me a few minutes to jot down a quick explanation and a short history of the economic and social factors that have influenced this phenomenon?
Thx in anticipation……
