O's play the red hot Tigers so hopefully they will lose that series while we at least take 2 of three from the A's. Then win at least one game against the O's and we should be in good shape.
I think it comes out to this:
3 NYY Wins + 0 BAL Wins = Magic number 0 Clinched
3 NYY wins + 1 BAL win = Magic number 1. 1 win needed in BAL series to clinch.
3 NYY wins + 2 BAL wins = Magic number 2. 1 win needed in BAL series to clinch
2 NYY Wins + 3 BAL wins = Magic number 4. 2 wins needed in BAL series to clinch
2 NYY Wins + 2 BAL wins = Magic number 3. 2 wins needed in BAL series to clinch
2 NYY Wins + 1 Bal win = Magic number 2. 1 win needed in Bal series to clinch.
1 NYY win + 1 BAL win = Magic number 3. 2 wins needed in BAL series to clinch.
0 NYY win + 0 BAL win - Magic number 3. 2 wins needed in BAL series to clinch.
0 NYY win + 1 BAL win - Magic number 6. 3 wins needed in BAL series to clinch.
0 NYY win + 2 BAL wins - Magic number 6. 3 wins needed in BAL Series to clinch.
0 NYY Wins + 3 BAL wins = Magic number 6. 3 wins needed in BAL series to clinch
So obviously ideals are:
3 NYY Wins + 0 BAL Wins = Magic number 0 Clinched
3 NYY wins + 2 BAL wins = Magic number 2. 1 win needed in BAL series to clinch
3 NYY wins + 1 BAL win = Magic number 1. 1 win needed in BAL series to clinch.
2 NYY Wins + 1 Bal win = Magic number 2. 1 win needed in Bal series to clinch.
So as Kaybli said if Bal loses their series it will be the most ideal scenario for the Yankees as they will have to win either 1 or 0 games against BAL as long as they win at least 2 vs Oakland.
