The Yankees will hire George Stallings to manage the team for the 1909 AL season with Shortstop Kid Elberfeld returning to his regular player status. He had replaced the original 1908 Team Manager Clark Griffth, when the Yankees front office had let him go during the season. The Kid had posted a 27-91 record with the team.

Thomas Padden was an MLB catcher for the 1932-1937 Pirates. The Pirates would trade him to Giants. The team would assign him to their Top AA team: Jersey City Giants (IL). On December 27,1939, Tom was purchased along with INF Alex Kampouris by the Yankees from the Giants. Padden would play in the Yankees Minor League system with the 1940-1942 AA Newark Bears. He never would play for the team at the MLB level. On March 26,1943, the Yankees would send P Al Gerheauser and C Tom Padden to the Phillies to complete an earlier deal (1B Nick Etten) made on January 22,1943. On January 22,1943, the Yankees had sent to the Phillies for unknown compensation, P Al Gettel and 1B Ed Levy returned to original team on March 26,1943. His 1st-inning curtain raiser is a majestic 395-FT, exiting Sportsman's Park over its RF bleacher roof. His 2nd HR clears the roof in RCF, carrying 515 FT, breaking a window on the other side of Grand Avenue. Ruth's final foray, however, is the main attraction, carrying deep into the never-before reached CF bleachers, far beyond the 430-FT mark. Estimated at 530 FT, it's still deemed, as of April 2010, the longest HR hit in World Series history. Ruth, however, not content to dominate offensively, also delivers a crucial OF assist, cutting down a runner at the plate, ending the Cardinals' 3rd-inning rally. In the words of Broadcaster Graham McNamee, "Babe Ruth nor no other man ever made a better throw. Babe shot it like an arrow and Hank Severeid did not have to move for it." If all this weren't enough, this also is the game during which the Babe makes good on his alleged pre-game promise to hit a HR for the bedridden young Johnny Sylvester.
1938-The famous heart-breaking performance by veteran MLB hurler Dizzy Dean during the 1938 World Series with the Cubs against the Yankees. At Wrigley Field in Chicago, the sore armed pitcher, no longer the flame-thrower of his youth, used a mixture of curves and off-speed pitches to carry a 2-1 Cubs lead into 7th inning, only to watch it disappear on tough luck. This was Dean’s last World Series appearance in in his MLB pitching career. As the Yankees would score 3 runs to win the game by the score of 6-3. 1960-At Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, Yankees slugger Mickey Mantle hits 2 HRs in the 2nd game of the 1960 World Series to lead the Yankees to a 16-3 win. This utterly uncontested affair is little more than batting practice for the Bombers, highlighted by 2 tremendous opposite field HR blasts by Mickey Mantle, the latter of which, measured at 478 FT, proves historic HR the 1st time within memory that any right-handed batter has hit a ball out of Forbes Field to the right of dead center. It was the 2nd time that Mantle paired up HRs in a World Series game. Mickey has a total of 5 RBIs in the game. Yankees starter Bob Turley picks up the win, while reliever Bobby Shantz gets the save. The contract was only finalized on January 14th, though, as the Yankees waited for a spot to open on their roster, which happened when 3B/DH Alex Rodriguez was handed his 1-year suspension for PED use on January 11th. He would play 91 games for the 2014 Yankees; he was the regular 2B during the 1st 4 months of the season. It was the most games for Brian since suffering his concussion at the end of the 2009 AL season. He would hit only .237, however with 5 HRs and 21 RBIs, but he did score 40 runs and collected 16 doubles. Not satisfied with his production, the Yankees would acquire INF Stephen Drew from the Red Sox at the July 31st MLB Trading Deadline to play the position. He would spend the majority of 2011 season back with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he had a 6-6 record with a 3.19 ERA in 18 starts. After missing 2 months of the season with a shoulder injury, he also got into a pair of games with the GCL Yankees on a rehab assignment that season. In 20212, Phelps would make New York's Opening Day roster. Dave was named the winner of 2012 James P. Dawson Award for the best Yankee Rookie player in their MLB Spring Training Camp. He got into his 1st MLB game on April 8th, coming out of the bullpen and retiring both batters that he faced to end the game against the Rays. Phelps had retired the 1st 12 batters of his MLB pitching career, but his streak was ended by a Vernon Wells’ HR. He continued to pitch quite well over the next few months, assuring his place as the swingman and long reliever out of the Yankees' bullpen. Dave would finish the 2012 regular season with a 4-4 record with a .34 ERA in 33 games. In 2013, Dave had a 6-5 record with a 4.98 ERA in 22 games. In 2014, Dave went 5-5 with a 4.38 ERA with 1 save in 32 games. Overall, as a Yankees pitcher, he was 15-14 with 4.21 ERA with 1 save in 87 games. 1998-Current Yankees Pitcher Clayton Beeter (2024) was born.
On August 2, 2022, the Dodgers would trade Minor League hurler Clayton Beeter to the Yankees for MLB OF Joey Gallo. He would appear in 3 games for the team, while pitching 3.2 innings of work with a 4.91 ERA.
2004-In Minneapolis, the Yankees would rally for 4 runs to tie the game in the 8th inning, then pushed across the winning run in the 11th inning on a wild pitch. The 6-5 win against the Twins would give them a 3-1 ALDS victory that sends them back to Yankee Stadium, where they will open against the Red Sox in the best-of-7 games 2004 ALCS.
2005-At Yankee Stadium, the Yankees would force an ALDS Game 5 by defeating the Angels by the score of 3-2. Yankees Starter Al Leiter pitches 7 innings for the victory, by allowing just 2 Angel runs on 4 hits, with Yankees Closer Mariano Rivera pitching 2 perfect innings for the save. Angels Starter Scott Shields takes the loss. The ALDS moves back to California for Game #5.
2009-In the 9th inning, Twins Closer Joe Nathan gives up a game-tying 2-run HR to the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez. Minnesota wastes a slew of opportunities to put the Bombers away in Game 2 of their ALDS, losing the game by the final score of 4-3 in 11 innings. Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira hits a walk-off HR off of Twins P Jose Mijares to end the game, after the Twins had wasted a bases-loaded, none out opportunity in the top of the 11th Inning.

Yankees Starter Luis Severino pitches 7 strong innings to earn the win, while Yankees Reliever Tommy Kahnle retires all 6 Tribe batters that he faces, 5 of them on strikeouts, to earn the save.
2018-The Red Sox would win Game 4 of the 2018 ALDS, 4-3 over the Yankees to move on to the ALCS. They had rough up Yankees veteran Starter CC Sabathia for 3 runs in 3 innings before Christian Vazquez homers to lead off the 4th against Reliever Zach Britton. The Yankees would manage to score twice against Boston Closer Craig Kimbrel in the 9th inning to move within 1 run, but Gleyber Torres grounds out on a close play to end the game, stranding 2 Yankees baserunners.
2020-In the only Division Series to go the distance, the Rays would defeat the Yankees by the score of 2-1 in Game 5 of the 2020 ALDS. All 3 runs scored in the game come via HRs: Aaron Judge for the Bronx Bombers in the 4th; Austin Meadows for Tampa in the 5th; and the game-winning blow by Mike Brosseau off of Bronx Closer Aroldis Chapman at the end of a 10-pitch at-bat in the bottom of the 8th. Four Rays pitchers, all pitching 2+ innings, limit the Yankees line-up to 3 hits in what is a pre-meditated strategy by Manager Kevin Cash.
2022-Yankees have announced that former team Closer Aroldis Chapman will be left off the club’s 2022 ALDS roster, after skipping a team’s work-out on Friday. Yankees Manager Aaron Boone told reporters this morning, saying that the veteran lefty was scheduled to throw live batting practice on Friday but he had missed it with “not an acceptable excuse.” The long-time closer lost his role at the back of the bullpen to Clay Holmes after a month into the 2022 season, giving up 6 earned runs in 5 2/3 innings in May, before he had an Achillies Tendinitis had forced a trip to the 15-day IL for the month of June. Upon his return in July, Chapman continued to underperform, by allowing 10 earned runs in 16 2/3 innings before landing on the 15-day IL again, this time due to a leg infection from getting a new tattoo. Chapman would return to the team in mid-September, he would show signs of improving, giving up only 2 runs over his final 5 2/3 innings. Collectively, Chapman would finish the 2022 regular season with a 4-4 record along with a 4.46 ERA in 36 1/3 innings, with 9 saves in 43 games. The Yankees will grant him his MLB Free Agency in the off-season. He will be signed by the Royals.
October 10th
1904-The Red Sox would clinch the 1904 AL pennant on the last day of the MLB season, when Yankees Starter Jack Chesbro threw a wild pitch in the 9th inning to allow the winning run to score from 3B. 1926-At Yankee Stadium, a crowd of 38,093 fans would watch veteran Cardinals’ hurler Grover Alexander saved Game 7 and the 1926 World Series for the Cardinals by fanning Slugger Tony Lazzeri with the bases loaded in the 7th inning and pitching 2 1/3 hitless innings. The 1926 World Series is the only Series in MLB History to have concluded with a runner being thrown out trying to steal. The unlikely owner of that dubious distinction is none other than the Sultan of Swat himself, Babe Ruth. With 2 outs in the top of the 9th inning, Alexander misses on a 3-2 pitch and Ruth is walked for the 3rd time, having hit a HR in his only official at-bat. With New York trailing by 1 run, Ruth reasons that, with nobody having gotten the ball out of the infield against the aging Cardinal Ace, the Yankees' best bet is to at least get a runner into scoring position in case one of their ground balls finally finds a hole. Yankees Starter Waite Hoyt would take the complete game loss.
1929-Former Yankees Reliever Bobby Tiefenauer (1965) was born. (1929-2000)

Yankees batters Joe DiMaggio and Myril Hoag would hit HRs for the Bombers. Another new World Series record comes, when the Yankees would complete the 1937 World Series without an error. The 1937 World Series 5th game was played at the Polo Grounds, where it was watched by a crowd of 38,216 fans.
1943-At Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis, a crowd of 36,196 fans watched the Yankees win Game 4 of the 1943 World Series by the score of 2-1 behind Bronx Starter Mario Russo’s 6-hitter. On May 16,1907, he was traded by the Yankees along with OF Frank Delahanty to the Cleveland Naps (aka Indians) for Pitcher Earl Moore. He would finish his MLB Pitching career with an 18-16 record with a 3.17 ERA in 78 games. He made his debut in the MLB in 1904 with the Highlanders, pitching 78 games exclusively in the AL. His finest MLB season would be in 1906, when he was 9-4 with 3 shutouts and a 2.32 ERA in 32 games. He had blanked the Cleveland Naps twice that season, finishing his MLB pitching career with parts of 2 seasons as a spare arm on their staff. Walter's 3.17 ERA places him 1st among pitchers from Harvard (through 2019), while his 18 victories place him 2nd behind Jeff Musselman. Dodgers Ace Don Newcombe takes the loss for Dodgers, it’s his 4th World Series career loss. He would finish the 1956 World Series with a career mark of 8.59 ERA. It's the 7th and final time, that the Dodgers and the Yankees will meet in the World Series as New York City MLB teams. In the future, it will take a jet, not a subway, to get these 2 teams together for the 1963 World Series.
1957-Lew Burdette's 3rd victory of the 1957 World Series, a 5-0 shutout over the Yankees; gives the Braves, the 1957 World Series Championship, their 1st since the 1914 Miracle Boston Braves and the team’s only 1 while playing in Milwaukee (1953-1965). Before his at bat in the 9th inning, Mickey tells his Yankees teammate, Catcher Elston Howard that he’ll hit Schultz’s 1st pitch for a HR. Mickey Mantle would finish the 1964 World Series with a .333 BA, while hitting 3 HRs, he will finish his MLB playing career with a total of 18 HRs in World Series play for the Yankees.

2022-Yankees announced the Reliever Scott Effross will require Tommy John Surgery.
