Slider down and in, gets under it to right toward the corner, but it stays in the park, Renfroe back to the track, catches. Almost got that one too. Dangit. 2 down.

According to MLB processing the 3-1 to Berti 0.148 feet inside. That equals about 1.78 inches. MLB grades their umpires with a 2 inch margin of error, so oddly that 3-1 pitch will be judged as a correct call. I personally think 2 inches is too much of a margin for MLB level (and honestly, the inside corner should be a plate umpire's most accurate. No wonder they always grade out so well, you have to be Angel Hernandez bad to get a poor score. The site I follow uses a 1" margin of error and it's much more fair in my opinion. However, in addition to using the 1" margin, they also evaluate every pitch in 3D pitch view. Many "close" balls at the front of the plate actually catch the plate in 3D. Of course that wasn't the case on the Ragans pitch. |
