Nobody I trusted more in the post season than Andy Pettitte. I like Pettitte as much as the next guy but he had his share of postseason stinkers. Game 1 of the 1996 WS and Game 6 of the 2001 WS come to mind off the top of my head and looking at the game logs there were a lot more. He had a 3.81 ERA in the postseason while Cole has a 2.98 ERA in the postseason. different eras between andy and cole. and yeah he had some real stinkers. the two you noted and others. but overall in his PS resume, he was quite good. out of his 44 starts, 28 were quality. i would call 8 stinkers, the others eh (4 runs in 6 or 7 innings in games we won) but ok. and i still contend that if we had him in 2004 (when george was so focused on sheffield letting pettitte slip away), that the red sox wouldn't have broken the curse that season (who would you rather have - pettitte or javy vazquez & kevin brown).

Agreed it was different eras and that if we had Andy in 2004 we would have beat the Red Sox in the ALCS (Sadly I was at Game 7 at the Stadium).

I started to watch the Netflix trailer on the 2004 Red Sox... I stopped watching when it started with the Yanks being up 3 games to none... It airs on Oct 23... good timing Netflix! I most definitely won't be watching!

A lot more runs scored back then and pitchers went deeper in games
