This was epic, even though Reggie came out on the short end of the stick! I loved the 1977-78 Yankees!
Welch came at Reggie like a man, whereas Gaddis tossed slurve after slurve to Soto. If I'm a Mgr. or Pitching Coach I want my pitcher to do whatever gives them the best chance to get an opposing hitter out. If that means they fail your "manhood test", I'm ok with it. |

Welch came at Reggie like a man, whereas Gaddis tossed slurve after slurve to Soto. Did you see that chin music he threw Reggie? That's what sets the tone for an at-bat. Not every pitcher has the guts, or control (without actually hitting/hurting a hitter) to throw up and in...and nowadays if they do, they usually wind up hitting the batter. I love battles like these...I'm hoping we see plenty of them in this World Series. Should be another Yankees classic! |
