I can't vote for Martin. He was one of those players/managers I really disliked. Also thought he was a bit overrated as a manager. No doubt he turned teams around quickly but his need for the limelight and the way he manufactured controversy gave him a short shelf life in many of the jobs he held. To each their own. But based on Martin's career, his career is right up there with some that are already in the Hall of Fame. You could be right Max but he's one guy I can't put aside my dislike for.

Tough topic for me to list Yankee players that fell short of the Hall of Fame, because I think many of their career stats didn't fall short of the Hall of Fame. Allie Reynolds is another one of those players that I think should be in the Hall of Fame. Interesting player. He had a career WAR of 25.4. He had a career record of 182-107 but is also remembered for being a good closer and ended his career with 48 saves. His ERA 3.30 and WHIP 1.39 were a tad high, particularly WHIP. Big game pitcher. .630 winning % in the regular season.
7-2 (.778 winning %) with a 2.79 ERA, 2 shutouts, and 4 saves in the world series.

I don't recall seeing Moose Skowron play alot but he is highly regarded in Yankee lore. 27.1 career WAR, 1566 hits and a .282 ba and .792 OPS. Don't know what kind of defensive player he was but those are pretty good offensive numbers.

My fandom doesn't go back too far, so what about nominating Bern Baby Bern, Bernie Williams! 4 time Champion. 5 time All Star. 4 time Gold Glove. ALCS MVP. Batting Title. Career WAR of 49.6. Career Slash rate of .297/.381/.477 with an OPS+ of 125. Bernie one of the most underrated players… Evah!

1955--you picked the first 3 would have picked: White, Stottlemyre and Randolph.

I agree with Allie Reynolds, Mel Stottlemyre pitching selections. I would add to the list pitchers Sparky Lyle, Bobby Shantz and Fritz Peterson to the pitching list. As far as regular players, Bill Skowron, Clete Boyer, Roger Maris and of course Thurman Munson.

Would have loved to see Mel's and Fritz's won loss records had they had a chance to pitch for better Yankee teams.

A career record of 133 - 131 but he had a respectable ERA of 3.30 and WHIP of 1.19. He had one 20 win season. Those numbers would get him a contract of $15MM per or more in todays game.

1960 Topps Baseball CardYankees All-Star 1B Bill Skowron played against former Yankee minor league teammate Vic Power (A's and Indians), who would dominate the AL 1B Golden Glove Awards. In 1958, Bill did lead the AL 1B in fielding.

Not sure if he was mentioned in this thread... But as I just mentioned in another thread, Hideki Matsui might have been in the Hall of Fame by now if he played for the Yankees sooner.
