Inger's discussion on Nettles vs. Rolen got me to thinking about other Yankees who had really good careers but fell short of the HOF. I thought I'd start the Yankee Hall of Very Good. MY first inclination was to make Donnie Baseball the first inductee but I am still holding out hope that the Veterans Committee adds him. So my first nominee is Roy White. Roy was the Brett Garndner of the 60's/70's. A really solid player who never seemed to get enough credit. Roy was a fine defender who had a 46.8 career WAR, 1803 hits, 233 sbs, and a career .271 ba.
My second nominee is a favorite of mine Mel Stottlmyre. He had a career WAR of 43.1, career era of 2.97, had 3 20 win seasons and won 164 career games while pitching on some teams that weren't very good. In 1965 he made the AllStar Team despte losing 20 games. He went on to have a pretty good career as a Yankee coach.
Many others need to be included and the thread is open for nominations.
In order to be inducted a player must receive at least 3 votes from board members who have achieved at least Ruthian Legend status.

My fandom doesn't go back too far, so what about nominating Bern Baby Bern, Bernie Williams!
4 time Champion. 5 time All Star. 4 time Gold Glove. ALCS MVP. Batting Title. Career WAR of 49.6. Career Slash rate of .297/.381/.477 with an OPS+ of 125.

This a great topic! But I'm at work and don't have any time to any research so I'll have to nominate someone later. It shouldn't be difficult because the Yankees might have as many "Hall of Good" caliber players as any team in the sport. I can think of at least four from the Torre Dynasty alone.

Great idea! Just so you know, my next one was going to be Mattingly vs. Dick Allen, but my vote would have to go to Allen despite my “Donnie Love”…

Willie Randolph - 65.9 career WAR, 2210 hits, .276 BA, a 6x all-star and while he never won a gold glove he was a very good defender with a career DWAR of 20.2 which places him 52nd on the alltime list.

Also thought he was a bit overrated as a manager. No doubt he turned teams around quickly but his need for the limelight and the way he manufactured controversy gave him a short shelf life in many of the jobs he held.

Tough topic for me to list Yankee players that fell short of the Hall of Fame, because I think many of their career stats didn't fall short of the Hall of Fame.
Allie Reynolds is another one of those players that I think should be in the Hall of Fame.

IMO, neither belong in the HOF. I guess Maz was helped alot by his defense. I understand he was very good but I didn't see him play alot so I don't know if he was head and shoulders above Willie. Willie had better offensive numbers and career DWAR are fairly close.

But based on Martin's career, his career is right up there with some that are already in the Hall of Fame.

Allie Reynolds is another one of those players that I think should be in the Hall of Fame. Interesting player. He had a career WAR of 25.4. He had a career record of 182-107 but is also remembered for being a good closer and ended his career with 48 saves. His ERA 3.30 and WHIP 1.39 were a tad high, particularly WHIP.
