I dislike Smoltz, but he was right. Volpe's approach that at bat was completely wrong. Had to keep the front hip in, step into the slider away and try to slap it to right. Volpe should still be maturing in the minor leagues. He was probably 1-2 years away from becoming a major leaguer, when Yankee management apparently fell in love with his glove. We've been seeing the results of his hitting (and all the K's that come with it) over the last 2 seasons...no time more important than now in the post season. The Yankees don't know how to develop hitters. He'd probably get worse in AAA.

Sigh. Greetings, teammates. I decided to sit out commenting here during the game because of last night and I'm oddly superstitious about baseball. Yes, I know how ridiculous that is. Anyway, This is about as bad a start as could have happened to this series. Have them basically handing you a freebie in game 1 only to psss it away with boneheaded defensive miscues and a dumb bullpen decision by the manager and follow it up with another disheartening loss. At some point we have to have a serious discussion about Judge's postseason woes, but I'm planning on doing a "season report card" for each Yankee post mortem. That's probably the place to express my opinions, hopefully he finally wakes up after yet another embarrassing game tonight. Yanks have dug quite a whole to climb out of, but I'm not waving the white flag. Baseball's a crazy game, and all it takes is a couple of guys getting hot. On to the next one. There really isn't anything they can do with Judge. He's got a great Soto in front of him, and a hot Stanton behind him, and no matter what the FOX guys are saying, he is getting at least one good pitch to hit almost every at bat, sometimes more than one. He's signed to a huge deal for another 7 years, and all he can do is age out of being a great hitter. The only one who can fix him, if he can be fixed, is Judge, himself. When the Yanks traded for Soto, I thought they should bat Judge 2nd and Soto 3rd, because it would force righties to give Judge pitches to hit, but at this point, I'm not sure that would matter. Anyway, they went chalk, putting the "better" hitter 2nd. They can't move him down, can they move him UP to 2nd? Try something; anything has to be better than this. It can't get worse.

I was hoping Yankees to leave LA with one win. This is not good to lose both games. Both games could have been won! It's gonna be a long plane ride back to NY!

Wow another nail biter. See you In NY Very tough team you root for. If they didn't have so many pitchers hurt, they'd have won 110 and walked away with the title. Thanks for that, been a lot of ups and downs during my 45 yrs as a Dodgers fan. Still a long way to go in this series, you guys can easily get the next 2 games. Buehler is not what he used to be and then a bullpen game on Tues. it’s going to get fun. Thanks for being cool guys.

What happened to the team with the best road record? They played the best team at home. Well, 2nd best after the Phillies.

What happened to the team with the best road record? The Yankees were one out from a win last night, and one hit from tying this game or going ahead in the ninth. Do you ever tire of being negative? Your act here is beginning to get old fast. How about some positivity for a change?

What happened to the team with the best road record? They didn't seem affected by the crowd noise it was def more noticeable in Cleveland with the noise level. Obv if the freeman hr happens at home there's a chance to match the score and it's not over but I dot think this ballpark effected their ability to win these games. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If it ends like it did with the Big Red Machine in '76, that would mean Steinbrenner would've signed a big bat for next season, to try and win it all...unfortunately, in today's world, that big signing would be for someone we already have on the team...nothing gained investment-wise, but a much bigger loss of a paycheck, with the same results (or worse, because no one could or should expect Judge to repeat his 2024 numbers next season, and we know the vacations Stanton usually takes in the regular season).

Horrible at bat from Volpe. He would have walked if he had never swung the bat. I dislike Smoltz, but he was right. Volpe's approach that at bat was completely wrong. Had to keep the front hip in, step into the slider away and try to slap it to right. treinen's sweeper is ridiculous but a god awful AB from volpe. wtf is he doing trying to pull that pitch. just needed to put the ball in play. only one of those 6 pitches were strikes. coulda walked.
forgot that berti wasn't on the roster. not a bad AB by trevino. he did have a pitch to drive. just got under it. would have liked to see go to right but that pitch was inner half.

How about some reality for a change?

Nobody can help Judge right now. He's in his own head and it's becoming pretty obvious that he lacks that really serious "clutch gene" that so many Yankee greats have had come October. When they're walking Soto to get to the soon to be MVP who smacked 58 HR, drove in 144 and had an insane 1.159 OPS during the regular season, the book is out. He's Wayne Tolleson at the plate right now, just with more K's. It's impossible to express verbally how frustrating that is as a fan. I can't imagine how frustrating it is for him.

And, it is easy to tell that you are a baseball fan. Come here anytime and talk baseball etc. Think about joining the forum. You only need to be a baseball fan to be appreciated. Sometimes, as Yankee fans, we are too close emotionally to see things clearly, so an "outside" opinion is more than welcome.

OK, Yanks get a much needed day off tomorrow, fly back home for game 3 at the Stadium at 8:08 on Monday evening. Gametime weather is forecast to be low 50's, going down to upper 40's by game's end, light winds, low humidity, a Wind chills mid 40's late in the game.
Walker Buehler goes for the Dodgers. He was 1-6 in 16 starts with a 5.38 ERA in the regular season. The Padres blasted him for 6 in the 2nd in his NLDS start against the Padres, but he bounced back with maybe his best start since coming off the IL mid-season this year: 4 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 2 BB and 6 K. His velocity is not all the way back, his command isn't all the way back, but his breaking stuff was very sharp against the Mets. Buehler is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in his two post-season starts. The Yanks will try to get off the canvas by starting Clarke Schmidt, who has good stuff, a wide assortment and questionable command. Schmidt was 5-5 with a 2.85 ERA in 16 starts in the regular season. In the playoffs, He's basically pitched the same game twice. In game 3 against the Royals, he held them off the board for 4 2/3, then gave up single, double, triple, knocking him out with the scored tied at 2 for a no-decision. In game 3 against the Indians, he again made it through 4 2/3, giving up 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 HR, 2 BB and 2 K, and left with the Yanks down 2-1. The offense took him off the hook for the loss, but the bullpen gave the game back and the Yanks lost.
OK, that's it for the game 3 preview, I'll check late notifications.

Unfortunately, bad at bats seem to be endemic to a not insignificant portion oof his roster. Too many low baseball-IQ at bats. Question is, is it so ingrained in these guys that there's no shaking it, or is there a lack of coaching/instruction going on? I know coaching isn't as important in baseball as it is in a sport like football or basketball because baseball is largely a 1v1 sport, but it isn't a non factor. I can't come close to counting how many times this season I've just shook my head and something plum dumb these guys have done with the bat in their hands, in the field, or on the base paths. They make mistakes that coaches try to break kids of in little league or high school ball. Over and over again.
