Goose doesn't pull punches...and he hits Cashman and today's MLB with some heavy blows! Great interview!

Got through about 5 minutes until I was reminded Goose is the old man yelling at kids to get off his lawn and has been for years. Revelation, the game has changed. Is there a major sport that hasn't changed in the past 30 years? I don't like all the changes that have occurred in sports but I can still enjoy the games. Some people just prefer to live in the past. Enjoyed him as a Yankee but since he's retired I find his outspokenness both predictable and boring. To each his own Coco, glad you enjoyed it.

I really did enjoy it...and I agree with him on most of his feelings on the game today. I do disagree with him on Mo, though, because Mo's numbers (as well as his character) speak for themselves as making him a baseball legend. As for the game itself, I find it really sad where it's gotten to today...no more hard-nosed players, managers in control of their teams, or even being allowed to discipline players, out of fear of being fired for their actions. It's really sad for anyone who grew up watching and loving the game 60+ years ago. And as for all the rule changes, it's mind blowing where we can see a line drive up the middle (which used to be an automatic base hit) now become a routine out due to the shift. No more hard slides into second to break up a double play. No more blocking the plate, etc., etc. And don't get me started on a list of 3 or 4 100+mph pitchers brought in after the 5th inning...man, this isn't baseball...the game has never been more boring than it is today...look at all the hitters that strike out as much as they do today...where are the hit and runs, where are the pitchouts? No one knows how to bunt anymore, and managers rarely use it...catchers rarely even throw to 2nd anymore, and practically never, with a runner on 3rd...The game has lost most of its strategy...why? Because multi-millionaires are now the players...pitch counts is a thing, because if they hurt themselves, they might sue the team for millions, etc., etc. The list goes on and on...but I digress...as far as I'm concerned, there was only 1 rule change made in baseball over the last half century that I agree with, and that was the DH...and even that took me a while to get used to, because taking the "let's walk the #8 hitter so we can get to the pitcher" option away from the manager, was the beginning of the end of the game as it originally was created. Sad.

Sad. I'm sure I've said on more than one occasion the game was better in my youth. But all sports evolve. Heck, when the game first started some pitchers threw over 500 innings in a season, often started both games of a DHer and threw complete games. Players tried to intentionally hurt opponents with bean balls and hard slides. I guess they were the real men and even the Goose Gossages by comparision were wusses.

I was a fan of Goose until he went on his crybaby world tour.

I was a fan of Goose until he went on his crybaby world tour. I’m still a fan of Gossage the pitcher. I separate players from the man they are to the best of my ability…If I couldn’t I’d hate on 90% of them…

I separate players from the man they are to the best of my ability…If I couldn’t I’d hate on 90% of them… Goose had to work for his saves, pitching a lot longer in the game than today's closers, who everybody raves about. Sparky, Goose and Tidrow had to put in lot of innings for the Yankees during their tenure in the Yankees bullpen. This is why the Goose has his attitude towards modern relievers. Yankee fans have been spoil by the Mo Rivera closer era.
