Ruthie roots for the Yankees and the Colts. It started out because she wanted me to be happy, but more and more she is recognizing the Yankee players is aware of what they’re capabilities are. The Colts rooting is less ardent, but then again, so is mine. I’d much rather the Yankees win than the Colts... inger! First time I've ever opened this thread and here I find that you're not only a Yankee fan and a Faces afficianado, but a Colts fan as well. I've been a Colts fan since Johnny U roamed the sidelines. Great minds... It's really a strange mix of teams. The way I see this, just as I suspected...you're damned near as crazy as I am... Yes, Johnny U was my draw to the Colts. I thought he could work magic. His mere presence on the field was enough to make any team win...Until of course, those last sad days in San Diego...I loved Earl Morrall, too. It was amazing how he could step in when needed and get things done. As for the Faces, well...That music has not only endured, as it turns up in the damndest places, but it had an influence on groups that attained much greater success... It's hard to believe that this is the place Where we were so happy all our lives Now so empty inside and feelin' no pain Waitin' for a hammer and a big ball and chain They can tear it all down and build something new Then only I'll remember what was here Tomorrow comes easy, just another day gone How hong will I have to keep returning? Now I look back, think I've known all the time I've been fightin' myself for so long All the vows that we made, gone for old rags and lumber Disappear on a cart down the road

Did your guys love of the Colts move with them to Indy or did you stay with Baltimore and cheer for the Ravens (Old Browns)?

Oh, I moved to Indy. I lived about 55 miles from Baltimore, but like all cities I hated it there. As for Indy, at the time I had never even driven past it on I-70, so I didn’t care about how bad it smells there. It’s a city, so I hate it. My rooting interest was with the players that were on the Colts roster at that time, so my heart moved with them. Irsay has always been and still was a blowhard, so that never changed either...Until he kicked the bucket...
They were a great Cinderella team this year until we all found out the slipper didn’t fit...

Speaking of cities...Chi, do you actually live IN Chicago, or in a nearby town or suburb?...

Update as of March 11th, 2019. I still can't post at pinstripesplus.com. Now it says this post is deleted every time I post. That is all. They've banned you for starting that game thread record-keeping tradition, ant... I haven't been there since I posted about being there two three months ago... This would all be very sad, if kaybli hadn't come up with the brilliant idea of keeping most of us together here... If I did it here kaybli would have like 80 wins a season. If I see some variety here in posting I'll start it up again but I think I counted last year and kaybli started about 100 of them.

I think we lost a lot of the former rotation members...

If you really want to smell a bad stench, just head west on 80, past Gary, IN on your way to the Illinois border. Gary is a serious crap hole.

Speaking of cities...Chi, do you actually live IN Chicago, or in a nearby town or suburb?... I used to live in Chicago, on the north side, near Wrigley Field. I was still living there when I first joined Fanhome/Scout and picked this user name, moved to the south suburbs when I got married, so maybe I should change my name to SuburbanYankee. I now work in the suburbs too, so I don't go into the city as often as I used to, but I loved living there when I was young & single.

Just hide all the baseball history books from her. She may find the events of the 1932 World Series offensive and start plotting revenge. Leaving an opening to ask one of baseball’s most intriguing questions... Babe Ruth’s “called shot” in that World Series... Truth or legend?... I’m going to go with legend. Ruth loved to promote his image, and confirmed that he had called the shot, but only after reporters asked him about it...What do others think?... She, like most Cub fans think the called shot was a bunch of B.S., they just don't get the magic of Babe Ruth and the Yankees. With Babe Ruth there was always a fine line between truth and legend. Charlie Root, the Cubs pitcher during the alleged "called shot," always claimed that if Ruth had actually done that, the next pitch would have been in his ear. There is a still photograph of The Babe pointing, but in all likelihood he was giving Root the business and threatening to knock the ball down his throat. They often show the film of Ruth rounding the bases after the HR, making gestures at the Cubs dugout. I'm sure it was accompanied by some non-family-friendly language. There were hostilities between the teams, at least in part, because the Cubs had voted not to give a full World Series share to SS Mark Koenig, who had played for some great Yankee teams and who still had a lot of friends on the team. Koenig was a late season addition to the Cubs and did a great job for them, batting .353 with an OPS+ of 136 in limited action. Babe in particular jeered at the Cubs for being cheapskates. So the bench-jockeying was in mid-season form, for sure. Ruth was at first kind of vague about the called shot stuff, but as the years went by, I think he began to believe he actually did call it. Even his teammates were divided on the issue. Koenig himself said that it would have been foolish for Ruth to make such a call with two strikes on him, but he always added that he accepted Babe's version of events. From the useless historical trivia department -- Mark Koenig died in 1993, the last surviving member of the legendary 1927 Yankees. He was one of so many Yankee players to come from the SF Bay area. I remember back around 1990 hearing him interviewed on WFAN by Steve Somers when he did the overnight show. Somers is usually a guy who is not terribly impressed by people, but he was like a little kid talking to Koenig, and kept saying he couldn't believe he was talking to a member of the 1927 Yankees. Koenig was one of Jeter's predecessors in wearing number 2.

Did your guys love of the Colts move with them to Indy or did you stay with Baltimore and cheer for the Ravens (Old Browns)? Like inger, my Colts love moved to Indy with the team. I lived in NC (still do) so I had no vested interest in the city of Baltimore itself. Not many Colts fans around here either in Baltimore or Indy. In any event, being a Yankee fan and a Colts fan means I hate the Boston teams--Patriots and Sox, but for different reasons. I got no problem with the Celts. Go figure.

But even worse was that somehow the Colts thought Marty Domrss would be better. He did okay in his first year ‘72) in Baltimore, throwing 11 TDS to 6 INT. He followed that up with 9 TD and 13 INT, and his next to last season in town (the final year he got significant playing time he threw 0 TD and 12 INT. Yech. The Colts struggled mightily to find good quarterbacking for a while until they landed Bert Jones...

Other than Bert Jones (the Ruston Rifle or some such) it was pretty much a clown show. Gary Hogeboom, Jack Trudeau, Mike Pagel, Art Schlister (of gambling fame!), Chris Chandler, Blair Kiel, Mark Hermann, Jeff George. Yuck. Of course, since they drafted Peyton, they've been pretty blessed in the QB department, except for the "Suck for Luck" year.

Not that I want to sound like what I am, an old man longing for the past...But...I wonder what Johnny U would do in today's game? I can see him now with that flat top...Directing the troops...able to stand in the pocket without getting knocked down about 30 times a game...290 career touchdowns...That's routinely about 8-10 years worth in today's game...My has the game changed...

Wasn't that the girl on "The Facts of Life"??? Jeff George had a cannon. I was a big believer. He sorta let me down...
