I think Shan was on a game thread… Besides for Shan we had two more sign up and not post yet. Was one of those trying to sell us a product better than Viagra?

Hi, all. I'm Dave, new to the board. Retired Air Force Weather Guy. Been a Yankees fan since the mid-80s, initially because my first favorite player was Don Mattingly...that sweet swing. Grew up in NE Ohio, traveled the world, and have settled here in the Omaha suburbs. Looking forward to some good discussion about our Yankees....even if this isn't exactly high times as a fan.

Welcome Dave! You've stumbled upon a great group of Yankee fans. Mattingly is my second favorite Yankee behind The Mick.

Let me join the welcoming committee, Dave. No shortage of Mattingly fans here. We hope you'll join in the discussions here. Where in NE Ohio are you from? And I don't think we've had anyone living in Nebraska on the forum. Always great to have new territory represented.

Lived there until I headed off to college. Nebraska certainly wasn't where I ever saw myself putting down roots, but the Air Force plopped me here and we ended up falling in love with Omaha. It's a really underrated little city. Great people. I'm also a big Buffalo Sabres fan and have met some fellow Yankee fans at a Buffalo sports bar I enjoy. So there's a few of us here!

He was before my time, but I've always been enthralled with Yankees history, so I've read plenty about him and many other Yankee greats. Proudly own an entire shelf of books on the Bombers. Personal top-5 would probably go: 1) Mattingly, 2) Mantle, 3) Gehrig, 4) DiMaggio, 5) Jeter

The last Yankee book I read was "The Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty" by Buster Olney. I'd love to read something about the 50's/60's teams.

I'll plug my all-time favorite: "Luckiest Man: The Life and Death of Lou Gehrig." Phenomenal read. For 50's & 60's I read "Maris and Mantle" by Tony Castro last year and really enjoyed it.

I haven't read that many Yankee books, but "From Chumps to Champs" by Bill Pennington was good one, detailing how the late 90's Yankee dynasty was built.
