I hope he falls flat on his face after using us to drive up the Dodgers price.
People are under-appreciating Soto too. Him and Judge are going to be the best 1, 2 punch in the league.
Too bad Yama didn't go to KC. Then we could have just "acquired" him like in the good old days. Holy Cow -- using Johnny James as your avatar! Now that makes my day. You are either a relative of his or from my era. He did vulture some wins for the Yanks in 1960. The Yanks traded him to the Angels in 1961 to get Bob Cerv back. As I am sure you know.

Merry Christmas to you as well Grandforks. I miss your always-thoughtful baseball history writing, which would be worth paying for. And if anybody ever wants to talk Cal McVey or Orator O'Rourke or Death To Flying Things, you are the pre-eminent authority. Great to see you on here, if only derivatively. Death To All Flying Things was also the nickname of one of Sarah’s and my cats: Charlie Boy. He was a black and white tuxedo cat with a Charlie Chaplin mustache. Sarah got him as a kitten from one of the wives of a player from the Visalia Oaks. We were at a ball game when Sarah left her seat to go to the concession stand to get an ICEE. Only Sarah would come back with a kitten. Like Elly Mae Clampett! Gloria had a tuxedo cat named Mr. Pookie when we first met. He reminded me of a lot of my friends, charming but a little untrustworthy. After a few months, he died and my first big act of love for Gloria was burying her cat. Hey rizzo, I sent you a couple of messages.

Merry Christmas everyone. I recently came over from the YES board, so I thought that I should introduce myself. I've been a Yankee fanatic for my whole life (I'm old). My earliest memories are of the great Yankee teams of the late 1950's and early 1960's. I remember listening to the Yanks under the covers at night (so my parents wouldn't know that I wasn't sleeping) on my transistor radio. The Mick will always be my sports idol. I watched Yogi, Howard, Blanchard, Kubeck, Richardson, Peppitone, Clete, Maris, Mantle, Blanchard, Tresh, etc., etc...., on WPIX and occasionally at the stadium. My loyality never wavered, even through the bad years (yes, there were more than I'd like to remember). Although I usually just "lurked" every day, I have contributed when it seemed necessary. I look forward to becoming part of this community, even if I'm not contributing every day. Oburg Bob

Many of our posters it seems grew up with those great 50s and 60s teams. You sound like a true fan and we are happy to have you on board!

I too had my transistor radio with the earplug in under my covers. As an east coast (MD) boy I knew that the only way I’d find out if we won or lost was to stay up and listen. We may wind up pestering you because you’ve seen things we missed, and because even if we did see things we like verification of what we saw. Did you witness the Larsen perfect game? That had to be incredible!…
