Both were big time busts. A lesson for everyone that big shot prospects very often times do no pan out as intended. I'll always remember Phil Hughes' second career start where he almost threw a no hitter and also injured his hamstring. And I'll remember not wanting to trade him for Johan Santana in 2007 hence this emoji:
Phil may have had a stronger career if he was left as a set up man to be fair. We'll never know, I guess but it would have been interesting to see.

But who in their right minds would have left him as a setup man after all that potential as a starter? And Hughes would never accept that either. He was groomed as a starter.

I can revisionist history fails here. It was what it was, and it is what it is. The same argument could be made that if Johann Santana had been a closer, or if Mickey Mantle had been a first baseman from the outset to protect those fragile legs...The one piece that is accurate is...We'll never know...

Imagine if Joba could've stayed as set up man and actually carved out a career...

Imagine if Joba could've stayed as set up man and actually carved out a career... For the record, I don't think revisionist history ever works... LOL... I think Joba needed to really give a crap about anything but himself and acquire just a bit of self-discipline and he could have been anything he wanted to be. As it turned out, he wanted to be a lazy bum, and he turned out just as he wanted to be...

I went to Joba's first MLB start and s was in for major disappointment... I knew he'd be on pitch count and shit but expected him to at least be competitive... My fav Joba start was the pitchers duel against Beckett. I thought that was the Joba we'd be getting majority of start a i was foolosh...

He only mustered a few innings and the Yankees lost if I remember correctly.
