This great picture reminds me of this weekend. There's going to be some cold games today and tomorrow. Bears tickets are going for $8 on stubhub. Another great photo from your stash, Chi. You have impeccable taste in classic sports photography, which makes me think you are probably a skilled photographer yourself. The player on the far right is HOF DB Emlen Tunnell. Second from his right is outstanding wide receiver Kyle Rote. The guy looking up (number 81) is HOF DE Andy Robustelli. That was a great Giants team. In addition to Tunnell and Robustelli, other HOFers on that squad were Frank Gifford, Sam Huff, Don Maynard and Rosey Brown. Other outstanding players were QB Charlie Connerly, RB Alex Webster, DB Jimmy Patton, DT Rosie Grier and LB Jim Katcavage. The OC was Vince Lombardi and the DC was Tom Landry. How's that for high-end assistants? The far-less remembered HC was Jim Lee Howell. That team beat the Browns again the next week in the NFL semi-finals, and a week after that lost the NFL Championship 23-17 to the Baltimore Colts in the so-called "Greatest Game Ever Played." I don't know about that, but it was definitely the game that first put the NFL on the national sports map. It created a sensation and got far more coverage than any NFL game had ever gotten up until then. Great summary pipps! I know little about the pre-Superbowl era of the NFL.

Thanks Kaybli. I love that era when the NFL was just becoming popular, but baseball was still definitely Number One.
I forgot to mention concerning that game the photo came from -- the Giants entered the fourth quarter trailing 10-3. They tied it on an 8-yard option pass from halfback Frank Gifford to TE Bob Schnelker (Gifford had been a single-wing tailback at USC, which means he passed quite a bit.)
The Giants won it on a 49-yard FG by Pat Summerall, another outstanding player who of course went on to a long career as a top notch broadcaster for NFL games and PGA golf.
The Giants not only played at Yankee Stadium (they were previously in the Polo Grounds), but their team logo was a giant quarterback arising from inside the stadium.

I do love these classic photos and sharing them on this forum.

Two broadcasting legends Summerall and Gifford!

Isn’t he a retread? Shouldn’t these teams go with draft picks and save money?

A huge upset in my opinion, as Michigan falls to Texas Christian University 51-45!

Saints pull off an upset over Philadelphia 20-10. An Eagles team without Jalen Hurts is still an upset in my book. Am I correct that Philly has four players with at least 10 sacks? Philly fans were booing their 13-2 team in the first quarter! Somethings never change!

They're ready to fire the whole coaching staff.
