The NFL Cardinals started in Chicago, so they went Chicago-St. Louis-Arizona MLB - A's - Philadelphia-Kansas City-Oakland Braves - Boston-Milwaukee-Atlanta I used to amaze Baltimore Oriole fans that said they couldn't Understand how I could be a Yankee fan by informing them that the Orioles begat the Highlanders begat the Yankees. It had nothing to do with the reason I rooted for the Yankees, but it did shut them up... Do the Yankees themselves count the stats and data from their Baltimore days or do they only consider the their history from when they started in New York?

Only in New York...Those original Orioles were actually considered a minor league team, as I understand it...

I stand to correct myself. They were in the American Association, then a ML, and later joined the NL...and later the AL, which came after being somewhere else, etc. Turns out they probably qualify as the team Pipps was looking for as far as relocation...They’ve been everywhere, man...
Well then again, they didn’t move so much as they league-hopped...

It seems like the Raiders have had an affinity for headcases going back to the 1970s. It used to work better for them in the past than it has lately. Last season season they got rid of Mack, who is one of the best defensive players in the league and doesn't cause problems off the field and then go all in on Brown. What a poorly run organization. The fish rots from the head down and Al’s legacy remains the culture. Like the Yankees under George or the Mets or Knicks now when the owner’s ego is that much bigger than their competence this is what you get.

Tonight would have been a good night for the Patriots/Steelers game. Instead we get it on Sunday night at the same time as Yankees/Red Sox. I really don’t like the night games but unfortunately the Pats play several every season now. Makes it hard to watch with the kids and makes the following morning pretty rough.

The Yankees were once in the National League?! Do what I do. Live in denial... (: Just to chime in on this. Rest assured, the Yankees were never in the National League. Here is the shortest version I can give of the Baltimore/New York connection. The Ned Hanlon-managed Orioles were a dominant NL team in the 1890s. However, after the 1898 season, the ownership groups of two NL teams -- the Orioles and the Brooklyn Bridegrooms -- merged. A practice that would soon become illegal. Anyway, before the start of the 1899 NL season, most of Baltimore's best players were simply transferred to Brooklyn, where the team was now called the Superbas. Manager Ned Hanlon and top players Willie Keeler, Joe McGinnity, Hughie Jennings, Dan McGann and others were among those transferred. Brooklyn easily won the 1899 pennant -- there was by then only one major league -- while a decimated Orioles team now managed by John McGraw finished a respectable fourth. After the 1899 season, the National League contracted, and the Baltimore franchise was dissolved. Still with me? In 1901, the American League was formed. A totally new Baltimore Orioles franchise was formed, with no link to the defunct NL franchise other than McGraw was hired to manage them and a few of the former players jumped leagues to join them. This team lasted two seasons,1901-1902. McGraw chafed under the more strict discipline on behavior of the AL President Ban Johnson, and quit the resm in mid-season to jump back to the NL to manage the New York Giants. The AL needed a presence in New York, so after the 1902 season the Orioles franchise was moved there, where they were first called the Highlanders or sometimes the Hilltoppers until 1914, when Ruppert and Huston bought the team and re-named them the Yankees. The Yankees don't count 1901-02 Baltimore records as their own, but only start from 1903 when they moved to New York. Phew. TMI, I know, but it's hard to boil it down without leaving a lot of questions dangling. But just to be clear, the Yankees have no taint of NL blood in their corporate system.

BTW, the current Baltimore Orioles, as is generally known, were the St. Louis Browns until moving to Baltimore in 1953.
But just to throw a little mud on the situation, the Browns were themselves the Milwaukee Brewers for the first AL season of 1901. They moved to St. Louis after that one season.
Which reminds me -- the current Milwaukee Brewers were, for one season in 1969, an expansion team called the Seattle Pilots. They moved to Milwaukee in 1970.
Open book test on Monday.
