I never thought of that, but you’re dead on! What’s with the retreads, DoMe? Sadly, because the majority of NFL Players have careers that last 12-years or less (not all) --there isn't much wiggle room for Retreads.
In addition, in MLB like in NFL you have your Jeter & Mo Types etc. that give an exception for Retreads
It’s the old “Retread Reversal Game”. Retreads are bad, except when they’re not. The Mets tried it with Yogi Berra and Willie Mays. It’s rare when it works out, but we’ll see...

Rizz, it looks like your Saints are signing Jameis Winston. Yeah Chi, lots of Saints fans had heated discussions about this possibility once Brady signed in Tampa. I am not a fan of Jameis Winston, but the Saints needed a backup, and not many NFL teams have a backup quarterback with seventy (70) games started at the position. Plus, he’s only 26 years old, and its probably only a one-year deal. There is little down side to this transaction with lots of potential benefit should Brees or Taysom Hill suffer an injury. Certainly, this shall be the most cerebral quarterbacking room and coaching circumstance Winston shall ever have been exposed to. He cannot help but learn and improve. His physical talent is obvious and he’ll encounter a very supportive, competitive, and professional locker room, which may also be a novelty for him. Therein may lie the opportunity to mature as well. Good insurance pickup by the Saints.

It is a 1 year deal according to what I wrote.
Winston has a lot of talent but refuses to grow up is as close as I get it. I watched him for two years at FSU. He has not learned in the NFL as best I can tell and they don't tolerate that.

Why did the Saints also sign Taysom Hill to a 2 year 21 million dollar deal with 16 million guaranteed? I understand he plays all over the field but still a questionable move.

Why did the Saints also sign Taysom Hill to a 2 year 21 million dollar deal with 16 million guaranteed? I understand he plays all over the field but still a questionable move. Hill was a restricted free agent, so the Saints designated him a first round value, meaning if another team wanted to sign him the Saints had the right to match the offer to keep him or receive a first round draft pick as compensation. Therefore, they signed him as to a comparable first round value contract. And, you are right, he is money on special teams, blocks as a tight end, splits out at wide receiver with his 4.4 speed, runs the wild cat, quarterbacks in the run-pass option, and he’s a locker room and fan favorite. There is very little he cannot do on a football field. Payton has said on occasion after watching film that Taysom Hill was the best football player on the field. That was also true against Minnesota in the playoffs where he almost single-handedly won that game. And, many think he is the heir to Drew Brees. Lastly, you have to have three quarterbacks under contract. Now, they have Brees, Winston, and Taysom Hill. The seventh round pick that they drafted out of Mississippi State (formerly with Penn State) Tommy Stevens (6’5” 235 athletic) is a project in the vein of Taysom Hill from three years ago and will probably wind up on their practice squad.

They needed to improve their interior offensive line, which was exposed by Minnesota in the playoffs. Ruiz was the number one rated interior lineman in the draft. Their rookie center last year is a mauler and will likely move to guard. This gives them youth, athleticism, and versatility along with two of the best offensive tackles in the game. Protect 41 year old Drew Brews and run the ball between the tackles, as well as their characteristic screen passes to the outside! I love it! Thanks for the recap, Rizzuto! At the start of the draft, I was hoping my Steelers could land Ohio St. RB J.K. Dobbins and he was available when they finally picked in the second round, but they passed on him and selected WR Chase Claypool from Notre Dame instead. Claypool is big and fast so he has a lot of potential, plus the Steelers have a great track record of drafting receivers, so hopefully it works out. Several pundits and fans thought the Saints had Chase Claypool on their big-board during the draft. Payton likes big receivers (Marques Colston, Jimmy Graham, Michael Thomas).

The Saints sound like they’re going to have an interesting roster this year. I love teams that have multi-dimensional players, can throw the Wildcat at you, willing to take a risk. I loved watching Michael Vick until I didn’t love watching him any more...Fran Tarkenton needs another life time for us to enjoy him...

I'm guessing Kaepernick has enjoyed being paid handsomely by Nike the past three years while doing nothing, especially when you consider how mediocre he is as QB. Do you really think he wants to play football?

Do you really think he wants to play football? Currently, there’s never been a safer league for quarterbacks, and there are several mediocre ones currently on rosters banking substantial coin. He will be 33 years old in November, but his body has not had years of wear and tear. He has prototypical size, if he still has wheels. Accuracy, quick identification, and leadership are the QB keys in this league.

He's probably still good enough to play in the league, but is signing him worth all of extra attention he's going to bring? We all know most coaches hate media distractions and Kap would be a major one.

The Jets and Ryan destroyed any chance he had of sticking. Tebow always had a media circus around him, in college and the pros, even in MiLB.

Tebow’s 47.9 completion percentage didn’t help him, either. To me, he’s a bit of a weirdo. I have no issue with someone expressing their belief, but he’s seemingly as over-zealous as anyone can get. Even on a team that all prays together, it can be a bit much...
