Assuming we don't catch Boston, who would you start in the Wild Card Game?

No vote yet. I’d want to see the rest of their starts, but it’s between Tanaka and Happ with Tanaka slightly favored at this juncture...
Selecting the starter today wouldn’t be prudent at this juncture...
(a return to the Bush years)... lol

I voted Happ….just an opinion, tattered and flawed as it is......

Yea I guess it also depends whether we play at home or in Oakland. I just wanted to get the discussion started.

Tanaka or Happ? Happ or Tanaka?
Too close to call right now.

Tanaka or Happ? Happ or Tanaka? Too close to call right now. If the game were tomorrow I'd go Tanaka, just off his record of being a big game pitcher and last year's playoff run.

I know you like song lyrics, and I hardly pay attention to them....but there is one song that was quite popular once that was so illogical I hated it....you know...."to reach the unreachable star"...if you can reach it, it is not unreachable...if it is unreachable, you cannot reach it... they missed the one suggested by your post..."to know the unknowable unknown"....

I don't know which one I'd rather have.. Happ or Tanaka. I voted for Tanaka though because he's been a Yankee longer.. HA! I don't like how Tanaka has been prone to long ball over his career. I guess it depends on who we're playing against...

I guess it depends on who we're playing against... Oakland hits a lot of HRs. That's the only pause I have starting Tanaka. Though this season both Happ and Tanaka have given up an equal 1.5 HRs per nine innings (though that number went lower after Happ's start today.)

Great topic. I would also lean Tanaka...pending the remaining season...

Would anyone consider Gray if the game is in Oakland? I didn’t think so...

Like most everyone else here, I see it as between Tanaka and Happ. I voted Tanaka, just because he has some post-season history with the Yanks, but if Happ is decisively better the rest of the year, I'd ride the hot hand. How's that for wishy-washy? Yes, the Sonny Gray contingent is definitely quiet for now. There is more likelihood that Sonny Siebert or Sonny Bono would start that game than Sonny Gray. And unless his pitching takes a U-turn very quickly, Luis Severino could easily be no better than the fourth starter in the post-season. Of course, given the Yankees' vested interest in his long-term future, they might make him number two or three anyway and pray for the best.
