Well, my wife and I are celebrating our 40th anniversary in May, and we usually do a big boondoggle on the tens, so this year it will be three weeks in Italy. We've been to Italy a few times before, but have not been to some key parts like the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Assisi, Bologna, Ravenna. So we are taking care of that, as well as some time in Rome, which is my wife's favorite city. But for me the highlight will be getting to the last country in Western Europe I have never been to, the tiny Republic of San Marino. One of Europe's postage-stamp countries, like Monaco and Liechtenstein and Andorra. Only about 30,000 people live there, and I'll bet a lot of them don't even realize they are an independent country. So I will fill them in. Also, the Giro d'Italia, which is Italy's equivalent of the Tour de France, will be taking place while we are there. It will pass through Bologna during our time there, so we will get to see the cyclists going through. This race is a huge deal in Italy, so a lot of the fun will be watching the Italians in the bars getting into it. I hate to be gone for that long in the baseball season, but with mlb.com I can sort of keep up (although the time difference makes it tough, plus when we are abroad my wife tends to show signs of irritation if instead of doing the walking tour I want to stay in the room and watch the Yankees.) We were actually in Samoa during the sixth game of the 2009 World Series, and I had to follow it through the old Pinstripes Plus forum while they were celebrating Fia Fia Night at the Aggie Grey Hotel. Managed to do both!!

The food there must be amazing. I know no one ever visits my parents' home country Bangladesh (I was born in the US) but have you ever been to India?

Ruthie and I will have pizza in May in honor of the Pippsheadache family anniversary...Though May can be touchy for me to celebrate. May 5 was the anniversary for me with wife #1. We'd have been in year 46 this May if we were still together, but somehow I don't think we'd be celebrating...As it is, this April 11 Ruthie and I will have 9 years in...

Amazing that after all these years, with recollections of "East Pakistan" and the need for relief for that area being served by a concert by the Beatles that the economy there is now one of the fastest growing in the world. Congratulations to the people for being hard working and intelligent enough to see the need for cultural change... Do your parents ever go back? Have you gone with them???

Pretty cool you know that about its economy inger! My dad has a lot of business there, he goes like 5 times a year. My mom goes once a year. I haven't been in about 10 years. I should go soon to visit both my grandmothers who have lived to the ripe old age of 90!

I know no one ever visits my parents' home country Bangladesh (I was born in the US) but have you ever been to India? Thanks so much, Kaybli. For sure, Italy and Greece need to be near the top of your list for a foreign adventure. The Greek Islands especially are amazing, and it's easy enough to do by taking ferries from island to island rather than getting stuck on a cruise with limited time ashore. You will love them (I predict you will get to both Italy and Greece and probably a lot more. Once you get into travel mode, it's hard to turn back.) As far as food goes, you can get great food pretty much anywhere on the globe these days. But for sure, Italy, like France, is one of those places where it's hard to NOT get good food. Jeez, in France they sell good pate at the truck stops! Food is definitely a factor in this trip. I have in fact been to India, although not in about 25 years. Talk about sensory overload!! Incredible place. One of a kind culture, but best visited after having a few third-world travel adventures under your belt. Although I know you have been to a few places yourself, even though you don't discuss it much. I haven't been to Bangladesh. It isn't the easiest place to plan a trip, although obviously it can be done. If you have family still there, you have to go. I am positive you would find it exhilarating. Maybe I will start bugging you from time to time to put a plan together!!

My mom is actually there now. My dad is going again in the end of March. I just have a hard time tolerating the long flight since I can't sleep on planes and am a little bit claustrophobic. I will go hopefully in the next couple of years.

If we decide to impeach him, let it be known that I choose not to run. I’m sleeping more than I ever have in my life. For kaybli’s sake I hope he’s impeachable...for the sin of sleeping...
