I checked -- no games against the Phillies this year. I should have known, since they played them last year. We can come up with something.

Pipps, I apologize for besmirching your city. You are 100% correct that I am a city hater. I have hated every single city I have set foot in. That includes Charleston, SC. That should be the measure of how much I detest cities. We did have a few great experiences in Charleston, SC though...I will admit to that.
I suppose I should mention that to be fair every sporting event of measure I’ve ever attended was either in a city or suburb. True also of each zoo and aquarium I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. The same for most sizable museums, though I have sampled some of those that were notable in the boonies.
When you come right down to it, I suppose my real issues are the traffic, crowded streets, stop lights, industrial odors, diesel from the busses and such. I’m not as disturbed by crowds as I once was, but still prefer peace and quiet to hubbub and ado...
Pueblo has 160,000 people. That’s still well over my limit, but it does lend enough of a population base for the hospitals and such that we need to survive as old folks...
Pueblo West has 35,000 people. I would have never dreamed I’d live in a suburb of that size, yet here I am. Yeah. It’s too many people and houses and cars, but I’m west of Pueblo just enough that within ten minutes I can be on an uncrowded route with the Rockies in site, and another twenty or so minutes I can have almost everything in my rear view mirror, searching for Bighorn Sheep or deer, elk, antelope, prairie dogs, hawks, eagles, and so forth. None of them honk at me, though once in a while one might try to jump in my lane...
I’m sure plenty of people who prefer big city life would complain about that, calling it having nothing to do. They might even say it’s a shit hole. Fair enough. It’s my shit hole... (:

I’d have quickly horned in on this adventure, even if I had to crash it as an uninvited stalker...I’d have hired a private detective to find out the when and where. I hope you guys do this and have a ball. One regret I have is that MrG and I were going to meet at Yankee Stadium and it never got off the ground because he got too ill... ): So what I’m saying here guys is...don’t forget. Get ‘er done!!!

It’s so hard to live with a reputation...I’m not near as funny as I seem...Even less funny with a mouth full of cheesesteak. Unless of course you enjoy humor that’s gross and unbecoming of a senior citizen...Plus, you’d have live with the embarrassment of having someone in your party that ordered his cheesesteak plain. Meat. Cheese. Bread...Everyone says “that’s not a real cheesesteak without onions, mushrooms, peppers, pickles, lettuce, tomato...special sauce...other Big Mac stuff”...

We drove down to Trenton to see a game, but took an excursion into Philadelphia to get one of the famous Philly cheese steaks. We walked a lot to get there, and thought the city had a little charm and wasn't a bad place spend an afternoon. I don't remember if it was Pat's or Geno's we ate at, and don't remember the sandwich so much, but do remember getting yelled at for going to the wrong window to order.

Doesn't it piss you off when you go somewhere and spend your money and wind up getting yelled at for something like being in the wrong line?...In the end you remember that more than the sandwich... I recall once being at a zoo and there was this beautiful bald eagle in a huge cage. I'm admiring it and I stepped sort of to the side of the cage for a different view. Just then a zoo attendant happens to be walking through that spot and tells me authoritatively that I must move back to the front of the cage. She's all of 18 or 20 years old and on an obvious imaginary power trip... I pointed out to her that while I'll be happy to move to the front, the area I'm standing in is not posted nor cordoned off..."It doesn't matter. I want you in the front"... The bird in the cage is nowhere near as big as the bird I want to flip her...The power those khaki shorts gave her...I wanted a pair...

Living in tiny Singapore, I always totally forget about outsized US egos whether at zoos or at Taco Bell. TSA agents always get Patricia and I giggling to each other when we are traveling through the various airports internally.

Inger, no problem with busting on Philly. It certainly deserves plenty of criticism, which again I think you could say about any large city. So much going on, a certain percentage of it is going to suck. I didn't love the place so much that I stayed there for the rest of my life. Three years was sufficient.
I do tend to enjoy what large metro areas have to offer. No question it entails plenty of hassle. I know lots of people who detest cities, and I know people who detest suburbs or rural life. I think there is good and bad in any of them.
For sure, if you hate Charleston, your city-hating credentials are unquestioned!

I think you actually “get it”, Pipps. the highest rating I give any city is “shit hole”. I never realized that until this exercise. I should probably modify that by having “SH-1” through “SH-3” ratings, but to be honest I haven’t explored enough of any of them to give an accurate assessment. I can see some of the deserted places around here that I can truly enjoy being rated very lowly by a visitor. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...I’ve never taken a scenic mountain drive I didn’t enjoy, even out east...but the Rockies have a grip on my heart. I know they don’t love me back, but I can’t help myself...

I’ll apply for a government grant to start my research immediately. I think a grant for $1B should allow me to do a ten year sabbatical while I consider the best approach. As a baseball fan, I’ve also learned to make that a guaranteed amount with a paid opt out out after the first month...and each month thereafter until I reach the hereafter...afterwhich Ruthie can continue to move the project forward, including the opt out for her...BOOM! Cancel the life insurance!!!

Unless I’ve visited a city’s ballpark, I don’t feel justified in passing judgement on any city provided it has a ballpark. To me, Yankee Stadium only ranks 4th as far as ballparks, but is easily the best city in the US and in the world. My Wife ranks it second behind Paris, but then she still doesn’t understand baseball after visiting fifteen parks so her opinion counts less than mine.😎
