The game is underway.
Wade with an impressive opposite field double that may have been a triple if the ball didn't bounce over the fence. Voit follows that with a single to right-center to drive in Wade. Nice to see Voit continue to hit to RF.

Hicks is huge, packing on 20 lbs of extra muscle and already working counts with long at bats. Best shape of his life alert! lol, I thought of this board when I read this tweet.

[img src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/udcwFqPimnXDtjoTmoVL.gif" alt=" " class="smile"] , Now we have double the gun show!
Seriously though, I wonder if he hasn't gotten too bulky. There are a few examples of players adding a lot of muscle and then getting injured or not performing as well as before such as Cespedes and Syndergaard from the Mets.
It may be good for the HR power, bad for the CF range. An extra 20 can be hard to carry out there for the full season. Let's hope for the best... He’s not likely to stay in CF forever and he’s about to becomes a FA. Teams don’t lag for defense. Smart for him to focus on hitting for power if the Yanks are about to let him test the market. Given what Machado just got, Hicks could be looking at a $200m deal if he can replicate last season and the Yanks let him test the FA market.

Luke sure is a strong guy. As usual, Voit let’s the ball travel deep into the hitting zone... At first I thought that ball was headed for right center field. I was surprised he had turned it around as much as he had... Too early to anoint him the starting 1B, Bird has a good day yesterday, but Voit looks unlikely to go away...

I was surprised he had turned it around as much as he had... Too early to anoint him the starting 1B, Bird has a good day yesterday, but Voit looks unlikely to go away... From yesterday. Seems to support the idea that the job is Voit’s to lose. Q: How will you decide first base? Is it just who hits better all spring? AB: No I don’t think it’s that simple at all. We’re a long way between now and the end of March. Luke Voit has earned the right to be that guy. But as I’ve said all along I believe Greg Bird can be an impact player, and I have never lost sight of that even at his lowest points last year. So we’ll see how it unfolds, we’ll see what our roster needs are as camp unfolds, but certainly as we get ready to break camp. Bird is in a good place physically, better than at any point of last year. So hopefully that translates into results from him, but I don’t get married to results so much in spring training. There’s a lot more that goes into those things. Q: What can Bird do to win the job? Just being healthy, being able to bounce back, looking like Greg Bird in the box, impacting the ball like we’ve seen him when he’s at his best. All those. He’s already grabbed our attention with how he’s looked at this point. He can continue to get our attention more as camp unfolds. And I think it’ll be pretty clear to everyone that what we’re seeing when he’s right will look a little bit different than what he was last year. Q: What about Luke Voit? AB: It’s impossible denying (not just) the impact he had, but how consistent he was for us the final couple of months when we had some key guys out. A lot of his damage was done when Judge was down, when Didi was down. So he’s earned a strong place coming into this camp.

Lot’s of time, and you never know if an injury will occur ( though Bird is alwasys a candidate for that, right?) or what else could happen. I’m rooting for both players, so it makes it hard to give up on either. If I had to make the choice today by myself, it would almost certainly be Voit..,
