Do you what area of Pittsburgh you are moving to?

It's such an easy city to get around, when compared to NYC or Philly.

Well I'm going in two weeks to search for an apartment. I'll be staying at a friend's house. The family will be back in NJ while I go. Then I'm gonna head back to NJ to grab some more of my stuff and start moving into my apartment. The family is gonna stay in Jersey until the school year is over and then they'll join me and do a full move. Soooooo much cheaper out there than here. Rents about half price. Even utilities seem cheaper. My friend said his electric bill was 30 bucks last night when my last apartment it was regularly around 80. I haven't visited the city yet but I've heard nothing but great things... My friend didn't have to do much convincing to make me chose Pittsburgh lol

Do me... Why not Pittsburgh. It's got plenty of shit to do... It's generally a clean city. Crimes not high for a city... Like i said it's CHEAP. My buddy lives out there already n he enjoys the same things I do. While PA has a Democrat as a governor... It's not a liberal hell hole like nj. My friend told me there plenty of places for work... I need good pubic transition since I don't drive. It's 8 hours away from Jersey so it's a safe distance from the mother in law for me but close enough the wife can still see her.

The real question is... Why not Pittsburgh

Lol. Just a few more miles south and it COULD have been West Virginia... give the lad time...Until you’ve moved at least once in your life, you don’t know shit about relocation. He’ll figure it all out in time...

Sierchio -- I have a niece and a nephew living in Pittsburgh and they love it. It certainly does not have the buzz of an East Coast city -- definitely Midwestern in its outlook -- and the weather will not make anybody in San Diego jealous. But it has a nice neighborhood older city feel to it, and as you note it's definitely cheaper than New Jersey. PA state income tax is a few ticks above three percent. It has a respectable arts scene, no shortage of good restaurants and some wonderful vistas with the hills and the convergence of the rivers. The Pirates park is definitely one of the better places to watch a game.

If you are moving from the NYC area, it will for sure seem slow.  That can be an adjustment, no question. And if it doesn't work out, well, there are lots of other places to try. We will look forward to your evaluation. Of course you need to give it a few months at least.

Lol. I think Pittsburgh will be a good fit for Sierchio right now. He needs a place with a little slower heartbeat, and he needs to experience a different life from the one that’s been beating him down the past couple years.

As for me, my belief is the lower the population and the further you move from the east coast the better. Another thousand miles and he could have left humidity in his rear view mirror, but he’s got a buddy in Pittsburgh that can help him settle in. Having moved once, he’ll find the world more accessible. He may move again someday.
