Glad we don't have Baltimore's pitching. We have one. It’s called a “batting practice machine”...

O's bring in SS to pitch and Romine hits first pitch over centerfield wall. He'll have to face Tauchman if he stays in. Look out!

Wow, that was a big time beat down. The Yanks are going to miss hitting in this place.

Lost in the home run derby was the great outing by German. Hopefully he's finally reaching his potential.

How was that not an error? Torres should have made that play. Real bad call by the homer score keeper and it cost German two runs on his ERA.

Interesting stat on Cashman, Chi. He is second among active GMs for victories. Dave Dombrowski is first with 2,183 going into today, but he started 10 years before Cashman and is 11 years older.
In fairness to Dombrowski, he took over some bad teams in Montreal, Florida and Detroit and turned them around.
I couldn't find any stats for all-time GM wins -- not sure it's a recognized category -- but I do know that there are only four GMs in the Hall of Fame in the capacity of GM -- Ed Barrow and George Weiss, mostly with the Yankees, along with Larry MacPhail and Branch Rickey.
That will of course change in the future since the role of GM has become more prominent.

Lost in the home run derby was the great outing by German. Hopefully he's finally reaching his potential. I felt he was frustratingly close last year. The only peripheral that was out of control was HR per 9. If he keeps the ball in the yard, he can win. What I’ve seen him do this season thus far is keeping the call on the edges of the strike zone better, and because of that he’s getting a fair share of swings at pitches that are just out of the zone. That should be the first goal of every pitcher. Throw strikes early in the count and then expand the goal. I think he looks like the real deal...he might be our best pitcher!!!

Both German and Johnny Lasagna have stepped up in the midst of the Yanks pitching issues. That's what happens with good teams. Maybe they have done all they are going to do, but in any event they better get some World Series shares. Both of them have been really impressive.
And now Frazier -- can this be real? I am staying tuned.

BTW Rizzuto -- coming back to the oh-so-literary start of this thread, the Hermann Hesse novel about the medieval monks was "Narcissus and Goldmund." I wish I still had the attention span to read things like that today. But it's much more instant gratification (and probably healthier, Hesse was a disturbed guy) to tune into the MLB network.
