A much needed win! Great work by the pitching staff, too bad CC couldn't get the win.

A lot of feeble at bats against Nova. Well that’s because he’s The Best Pitcher In The World

Just got it in. Looks like a strong five innings for CC! "Greatest pitcher in the world" though holding us down. CC's been amazing after all that time off. From what I read he worked his ass off this offseason. I hope he’s strong all year.

Why take out German here? I was surprised he pitched at all, I guess his turn in the roation is getting skipped. They did say that on yesterday’s broadcast. His turn is being skipped so he was available from the pen.

Renteria did us a favor taking out Nova. Sometimes the pitch count bogeyman works against you, sometimes it works for you.
The main thing was the win, and all the Yankee pitchers were great today, but the Yanks could almost certainly have gotten by just using CC and German. Even for his first start, it sure looked like CC wasn't tiring after 62 pitches. I hope not. But both Boone and Renteria got to be "strategists" by using more pitchers than necessary, and we certainly want them to feel engaged in the game.
Bird on a pace for 14 RBIs. In his first afternoon as a Yankee this year, our third-string catcher Higgy has equaled Bird's RBI output.

Yeah, bad as he's been, he does take walks and grinds out a lot of at bats. But he doesn't seem like he's just hitting into bad luck, he just looks lame. And is he the slowest Yankee runner since Jorge Posada? Not that we get to see him on the basepaths very often, so it's a small sample size.

In his first afternoon as a Yankee this year, our third-string catcher Higgy has equaled Bird's RBI output. Yesterday I semi-jokingly referred to a 45-pitch limit for CC upon his return. I would say the additional 17 pitches are due to ghevamazing effectiveness. Had the big guy allowed say, a couple runs off four hits, he very well may have been pulled at 50 or so pitches... The over management of pitching staffs is absolutely the worst issue in all of baseball that should go the way of the dodo bird. I’m afraid it may get worse before it gets better. The way German has been pitching and was pitching today it’s quite odd that we saw Britton. Since we’ve been smelling the field up, I could see Chapman getting the work today, but other than that aspect, this could have been a two pitchers used affair from the Yankees side...
