Not our night thus far. Is it my imagination or has Gardy had more poor defensive plays this season than all others combined? I don’t think you’re imaging it. Plays that used to be easy are getting harder. He’s lost a half a step. That’s all it takes to make what used to be easy catches into max effort plays. So much harder to make a play when you’re at the edge of your range and still running as hard as you can...

No more trivia: just facts...
In 1938 former Yankee (then a Pirate) Johnny Mize collected 16 NL-leading triples without recording a stolen base. He’s the only player to ever lead his league in triples and not steal a single base, plus that is the most triples ever hit in a season by a player without a steal.
The player with the second most triples without having stolen a base is also Johnny Mize, who hit 14 triples in the following season (1939) (did not lead league in triples).
In 1940, Mize hit 13 triples... but he stole 7 bases that year. Mize never hit double figures in triples again...

Not even close to interference. Smith never even saw the guy, who was behind the fence and did not touch Smith, nor the ball until Smith steered it into his hand...

The league leader in steals had 16 in ‘38, and 17 in ‘39... Stan Hack both years, though Lee Handley tied him in ‘39...So that does explain it to some degree...

If either Gardy or Maybin would have been out, there would have been gnashing of teeth. If you have speed, you have to take a few chances...
