Typical Orioles: the game ends with Alberto's, who had 4 hits and has been killing left handed pitching, spot in the lineup, but he had been removed from the game for Villar. Very weird...

I was thinking when Singleton said Villar is a .183 hitter as a right handed hitter... “when .183 is the best you’ve got”. These short benches in exchange for deep bullpens is really dumb strategy. When you put 12 pitchers on every staff, there are 30 extra pitchers in the game that belong in AAA. Then some teams add a 13th pitcher, and the ranks swell to 50 or so extra pitchers with marginal talent. I know the reverse is true with position players if you go the opposite way, but there are far more capable fielders that can hit a lick than there are capable MLB pitchers. And they at least cover more than just on act... I’d much rather be able to pull a bat or some legs off the bench than to bring some young hotshot in to face one batter and watch him walk the guy or serve up a gopher... Just my nickel’s worth...

It’s those long legs and tremendous hip rotation that differentiates him from most pitchers...

Red Sox won today to keep pace. Idle Rays fall to a full game out. If either of those teams stumble and the Yankees take care of business with the schedule next couple of weeks... There could be a gap in the division...

Wonderful throws from the outfield. You’ll bust a gut, even if you know it’s coming... And I don’t recall the last time I ever saw as bad off a whiff by a catcher on a foul pop up...
