I missed the entire game due to work, but I'm glad the won and got the sweep. It sucks that Tanaka didn't get the win, but at least the team did.
On to KC!

Bases loaded two outs for hicks. This is the time I think how good this team would be with Stanton and Judge. I like Hicks a lot in that situation. Granted the pitcher couldn’t find the plate but his plate judgment is as good as anyone on the team.

This is also a function of Boone treating every reliever as interchangeable except for Chapman who only pitches in save situations. They had a 3 run lead in the 8th and he goes to Holder and Kahnle. I don’t know where they rank but they aren’t his 1st, 2nd or 3rd or 4th best relievers. He’s managing for tomorrow, today. Yankees are starting an opener tomorrow so he tried to get out of this game without using Ottavino, Britton, etc. I personally have no problem with Kahnle pitching in those situations, however I think it was unfair to throw him into that situation. Sure he’s a reliever and he needs to get out of “jams”, but it just makes more sense having him start a clean inning. If he had and gotten the job done in the 8th, Boone could’ve gone to Britton for the 9th and got out of here without using Green, Ottavino, Chapman, etc. But here we are I guess so but if a consequence of using an opener is risking losing a game with a 3 run lead the day before, the strategy is flawed.
