I think Frazier needs to go down unless he’s going to be a professional DH. He doesn’t know how to play the OF.

Once Stanton and Judge return, Frazier becomes very attractive trade bait. I agree that he's lousy defensive player. But i think he's become the hitter he's supposed to be. If Judge returns in time, I expect that Frazier will help the Yanks obtain another SP. Would Frazier for Bumgarner be a fair deal? Hmmm

Frazier might get to be a better fielder in time. Stanton is hardly a great fielder is he? Who knows if Judge will be back this year. Not hearing anything about him at all does not encourage.

Hmmm The biggest objection I would have on trading Frazier for Bumgarner is that Frazier is 24 and Bumgarner is 29. I realize that there’s a bit of a quandary in valuation pitching vs. position play. We can’t assume other teams haven’t noticed that Frazier is not playing good defense, so perhaps we could be better compensated by an AL team that would use him at DH. I’d rather get a younger pitcher for Clint, to be honest. After two years of injuries, Bumgarner is only posting as a 100+ ERA pitcher this season. Is he looking at the downhill side of his career? To play devil’s advocate, I then put myself in the other GM’s shoes and I wonder if Frazier has become wall shy, or if he’s still experiencing some collateral damage from some bumps on the noggin. So now, I want to give less for him. It’s a more complicated trade than just looking at numbers, isn’t it?...

Bumgarner for Frazier isn’t better than signing Keuchel and giving up draft slot money. I don’t think Bumgarner will ever again be what he was. I do agree that we are likely to deal Frazier since he seems incompetent in the field. If he plus some minor leaguers who aren’t our top prospects can get us a quality starting pitcher I would make that deal. Otherwise he has options and we can park him at SWB and have him work on his defense to see if he can become merely a bad fielder instead of what he is now which is really too bad to even play the field on a bad team.
