We can get out of the Ellsbury contract in 2021 by paying 5 million. Does that count against the salary cap?

The 5 million buyout would figure in their total 2021 payroll total. There really isn't a salary cap, just a dollar limit that once you go over, you start paying the penalty, however, the way teams are so determined to stay under this limit, it acts like a cap.

I think the yankees let betance and didi go and sign gardner for a modest contract. Frazier's struggles makes that more likely

And there might well be a spot open for him, if not at SS, 3B. All true, blue. I love Didi, too... but on the business side of the game, he’s on the wrong side of thirty. Hopefully Didi is smart enough to realize that, too...If he is, an agreement could be reached... I’d like to keep Didi around. If he changes positions we have backup at SS, which is very important. So far it appears Gleyber’s hip hasn’t been barking, but as a man with a hip that barks from time to time, I can tell you that some days when you least expect it, a hip will just start barking... |

So, now that I said my piece on Didi, I think Gardner is a year to year matter, and you try to retain him on a short term deal. He’s no longer as important as he once was... until he is...And for a 4th, he’s still darn good with the exception that his arm doesn’t play in RF... Betances? Let’s see him pitch. He could continue to have 2-4 years of value...But let’s see it first... |
