It's because the ruling now says "as long as the ball is in the glove it does not have to hit the leather in the back" Which is a really dumb rule, because until it does, it’s not even caught...When I did a wee bit of umpiring that I did, I believed that on force plays you watched the foot and listened for the ball hitting the mitt/glove. You can’t see both at the same time... Totally agree with you Inger the ball could hit the back of the glove and fall out. |

I assume if that happens then it’s going to be ruled dropped and the call gets fixed, but I never assumed a ball heading for my glove was going to stay in. I completed the act of nestling the ball and would use two hands when possible... |
