Speaking of “costs”, Encarnacion is almost a $22M dollar player. Since there were concerns about going over $17.9M for Keuchel, it seems to me that the Yanks must have some sort of move in place to compensate for taking on that salary...
Hmmm. Interesting... Very interesting, indeed...

Didn't realize Edwin is having such a good season with Mariners. He leads MLB in HR, .888 OPS, ranked 23rd in Offense by fangraphs, and given his age, can be managed here due to the depth to be fresh down the stretch. Cashman got to re-tool in 2016, club showed it's potential in 2017, had a great regular season in 2018 but ran into a buzzsaw, 2019 begins a period to get greedy personnel wise. Dodgers have done a great job rotating guys in and out of the lineup, it's a new era of doing things around MLB. Think Edwin gives them a great veteran presence moving forward. Cashman should go all-in and try to pull a big SPer, but gonna be interesting to see the costs. maize....saw an excellent winning game by Michigan team in the first game of the CWS tournament yesterday....then a 1-0 pitching duel in the nightcap.....there was a lefty going for Florida State who has a world-class changeup....he got in trouble with runners on 2nd and 3rd, nobody out and in a 0-0 game late...and threw virtually nothing but changes to the next 3 hitters...got a tap back to the mound, holding the runners, and a throw to first....then struck the next two hitters out on changes.....they thought he would mix in a fastball, and here it comes...but he sold it so well, it was another change and they were way in front...fun stuff...

Very interesting, indeed... According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal (Twitter link), the two teams are “essentially splitting the money” owed to Encarnacion for the remainder of the season. The slugger has roughly $9.25MM remaining on the $20MM owed to him this season, counting the $5MM being covered by the Rays as per the terms of the three-team trade that brought Encarnacion to Seattle from Cleveland back in December. Encarnacion also has a $5MM buyout of a $20MM club option for the 2020 season. The Yankees had a projected luxury tax number of slightly over $227.6MM prior to the trade, as estimated by Roster Resource’s Jason Martinez. The addition of Encarnacion will all but guarantee that New York exceeds the second-highest luxury tax threshold ($226MM), though it still keeps them below the maximum penalty threshold of $246MM, as Joel Sherman tweets that Encarnacion’s luxury tax hit is a modest $3.4MM. Should the Yankees exceed that $246MMfigure, they’d be taxed at a 62.5 percent surcharge on the overage of every dollar beyond $206MM, plus their top draft pick in 2020 would be dropped by ten slots.

I hate the luxury tax rules.....damn you Selig.... I don't like but it's better than a strict, hard salary cap.

You like Mike Ford more than Mike Ford likes Mike Ford. I suppose that might be good for his ego if he doesn’t find it creepy. Then again, if he doesn’t find it creepy, I like him less than I thought... Do you think we can get Max Scherzer for Tyler Wade?

It isn’t impossible that Scherzer might be available but that would blow the luxury tax out of the water. So I have to assume he’s not their first choice unless they were moving some salary that way also which would probably mean a three way trade. So probably unlikely.

While we're piling on inger: how's your boy LeClerc doing? Not too well huh with that nearly 5 ERA? [img class="smile" alt=" " src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/udcwFqPimnXDtjoTmoVL.gif"] BUMP. I want to make sure inger sees my LeClerc dig.
