Valdez was signed out of the Dominican in 2015 for $10K and has surpassed all expectations with his smallish 5’11” and (listed) 170 pounds. He looks a bit heavier. His walk rate was a problem a few years back and Houston hasn’t decided if he’ll wind up starting it relieving. He has a low mid-no ties fast ball that he can squeeze a few extra MPH out of when he gets in trouble, and a knee buckling curve that he commands exceptionally well and he uses it effectively late in counts for a “freeze” pitch and also gets swing and miss. His issue is that up til now he’s had a very poor change up, which I have not seen in 2019. If he has that pitch working now, he might become tough. His last two outings have been strong starts, and up to this point he has never allowed a run in any of the first three innings of a game. Houston has allowed him to throw 82 and 84 pitches to complete 6 and 7 innings in his last two starts. If he’s doing well today, they may very well decide to stretch that out past 90. He appears to have a good future in MLB. And up to this point has been even tougher in high leverage situations. We can hope Yankee Stadium is a factor since he’s so young (25)... Just asking, since I couldn’t see, did the kid look anything like the scouting report? I saw he popped Gardner up on a 3-2 change in the third inning...Also mowed through the Yanks pretty well for three...

Stanton busting down the line in a 10-4 game. That’s the time to do it. If it works, great. If not, it goes in the Astro’s memory bank... “Watch Stanton, he’ll drop a bunt on that shift”... I love it, and we know Russ had to go wipe...

EIGHT home runs in this game if you’ve lost count. Just saying because I know an amputee who would have by now...

Don't do that Maybin! Not worth getting hurt at this score.

that would have been a great play if the ball was where Maybin thought it was 10-6
