Strong two innings by Green. Even though he hung one, I like that's he's incorporating his slider more often instead of being a one trick Sally.

I didn't know Paulie was a drummer. Yea. He used to jam with Bernie back in the day.

Valdez was signed out of the Dominican in 2015 for $10K and has surpassed all expectations with his smallish 5’11” and (listed) 170 pounds. He looks a bit heavier.
His walk rate was a problem a few years back and Houston hasn’t decided if he’ll wind up starting it relieving. He has a low mid-no ties fast ball that he can squeeze a few extra MPH out of when he gets in trouble, and a knee buckling curve that he commands exceptionally well and he uses it effectively late in counts for a “freeze” pitch and also gets swing and miss. His issue is that up til now he’s had a very poor change up, which I have not seen in 2019. If he has that pitch working now, he might become tough.
His last two outings have been strong starts, and up to this point he has never allowed a run in any of the first three innings of a game. Houston has allowed him to throw 82 and 84 pitches to complete 6 and 7 innings in his last two starts. If he’s doing well today, they may very well decide to stretch that out past 90.
He appears to have a good future in MLB. And up to this point has been even tougher in high leverage situations. We can hope Yankee Stadium is a factor since he’s so young (25)...

Forgot to mention that Valdez has really been great at keeping balls in the park throughout his minor and MLB career.
For some reason, he seems to get into trouble in his third inning, but always has wriggled out (no runs allowed despite .405 OBP against and .290 BA against in that inning)...

Cortes wiggles out of trouble. Over twenty pitches. Not as crisp with fastball command as his last couple outings.

I’m ready to see this BS opener crap come to an end. Start Cortez and let him grow into a starter at the MLB level. Green can enter in the 5th or sixth or seventh... when he’s needed. So Boone can still play with Green, too... Who knows? Might only need those two pitchers some days, and let the rest... rest...

I’m aware of that. I haven’t gotten to it yet, but have been wanting to see what our pitching is like (especially the bullpen) the two days following opened day to see if there is a lag affect once the bullpen experiences the extra load... Just curious, of course... not trying to prove anything... much ... (:
