Other good news is that if the Orioles' score holds up, we will increase our lead over them to 30 games. Baltimore's quest to win 40 games this year has taken a hit this last 10 days.

If you're going to play a 4 hour, 9 inning game, you might as well win it!!!
9-1 home stand, the Yanks have now won 11 of 12.

That lead ended quickly. And Britton hasn't even walked his requisite 2 batters this inning yet. I'm starting to worry about the workload on the Big 4 in the bullpen. Maybe it's catching up to them? Agreed. Someone else needs to step up--either one of the other relievers or one/two of the starters giving us an inning or two more. Maybe Chad Green has righted himself enough to become that other reliever. But they'll have to work around his "opener" role. Even if those games go well (and they have so far), they chew up a lot of pitchers every 5 days.

The Yankees are burying the rest of this division. Now 25-7 versus AL East teams. Boston's bullpen keeps letting them down. Glasnow out long-term and Snell essentially pitching like Happ sinking Tampa Bay.
This has been an amazing run under largely adverse conditions this year. The Yankees are playing at a pace almost equal to what Boston did last year. Except if Boston had been without Betts and Bogaerts and JD and Benintendi and Devers and maybe 15 others for several months, no way would they have put up the record they did.
That's what the Yankees are accomplishing so far this year.

I do think Green is close to being back to what he was. I don't think he's allowed an earned run over his last five appearances taking in eight innings. But I agree that overwork is taking a toll on the big four relievers. Entirely predictable of course with the self-destructive philosophy of extreme innings limits. I guess the upside is that every other team in baseball does the same thing. I suppose it is by now carved in stone that it's better to wear out your bullpen than to ask starters to go marathon seven inning starts. But as long as everybody is playing it the same way, it makes less difference. Although the Yankees are probably more shutdown bullpen dependent than most teams. As long as they can score eight runs a game, they'll be okay.

Fiers is 20th at 4.21. Mike Leake is 4.54 and in 30th. We shouldn’t make light of the Yanks pitching issues, but we need to realize that this is an offense-dominated environment. Some of our pitchers aren’t doing quite as poorly as we may be imagining...

To follow up, CC’s 4.04 ERA is an ERA + of 112...

Once German comes back, the opener will go away. Green can be used in high leverage situations in the pen.
