If Mattingly had played on those championship teams of the late nineties he would be higher on the list. My second favorite player behind Mantle. It's a shame, the back injury robbed of him of a certain HOF career.

As great as Gehrig was, if Donnie has stayed healthy we could have had some tremendous discussions about which player was the best first baseman of all time. How odd that Gehrig had such a tragic end to his career and more importantly, his life. Then, his biggest challenger to the throne of great Yankees first baseman of all time suffered an injury that kept him from approaching Gehrig as an all time player...
