Higashioka is hitting .268 with a .914 OPS. He’s tagged 16 HR in the 53 games he’s appeared in. Hope to see some of those bombs while he’s up!...

Not that I'm some kind of expert, but he doesn't seem to do anything exceptional, a downgrade from Sanchez and Romine.

Not that I'm some kind of expert, but he doesn't seem to do anything exceptional, a downgrade from Sanchez and Romine. The Rule of Catchers provides that if he can’t hit, the media will assure you he’s excellent defensively (see for example Joe Girardi and John Flaherty) and if he can hit, every defensive issue will get magnified out of proportion (Gary Sanchez and Jorge Posada). So in AAA Higgy probably is considered a poor defensive catcher and when he comes up here he will be regarded as good defensively.

Gary Sanchez was one of the reasons we have done as well as we have this year. During the month of May through mid June his hitting was critical to our success. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery. However in the month of July he was 6 for 59 with one home run and seemed to look lost at the plate. Maybe Romine and Higashioka don't have his arm but I don't think it will kill us having Sanchez gone for a while. We'll see.

An amusing moment, if not to Sanchez is that Romine came in last night and hit an immediate single which Sanchez notably failed to do.
Maybe he was already hurt in July. He was sure swinging at some bad pitches.

Higgy is considered to be a slightly above average hitter due to his power. He’s considered to be a good farmer of pitches with soft hands that pitchers like to throw to. His throwing is about average, so he can be run on...
