yes...right...……..Julie had a smoky voice, whatever that means....and good looking....I have some of her records on 78rpm somewhere....are those collectible, you think?.....sometimes old things become more valuable..... Julie London did have a smokey voice, beautiful face, and a smoking body to boot. I see that evidence of the endurance of her music can be found in that Barnes and Noble bookstores is selling a 3 CD boxed set of her best loved tunes. I looked at some of her memorabilia on e-Bay and found that her autograph (as expected) greatly enhances the value of her old photos, posters, and yes, 78 RPM recordings. Typical non-autographed albums are being offered from $9.99-$20.00 each, though an autographed cover can drive the price from $50-$100 higher. I watched an episode of American Pickers once where a guy had a rather large stack (100 or so) of 78’s that Mike got for a $1 or $2 per record. They were out of the jackets,, and were not pre-inspected for evaluation. He said he was taking a chance on them, but at that price I suspected that there could easily be one or two in the box that would pay the investment off. I do recall my family owning a few of the 78’s when I was a lad. It was music that appealed my mother, but not to me at the time. My first record turntable had the setting for 78’s on there, but we mostly used it to make 45’s sound like Dave Seville’s chipmunks... Man, those Chipmunks were all the rage back then. “Want a train that loops the loop” “I still want a hula-hoop”... The Chipmunks…..I can see that, inger…...you would have been Alvin...……...

I hope not. I really enjoy Ken Singleton. Great voice, kind and good-natured man, humble, and a link to the baseball I grew up watching. I agree. I like Kenny. He does tend to lean on the same stories and expressions much like Jim Kaat did, but he’s a smart commentator. The story last night that Ruocco got out of him about how he got into broadcasting was great. You’ve probably hit on why announcers should have an expiration date. Even those we like can get repetitive... The same with us as posters. We can get repetitive, too. The same with us as posters. We can get repetitive, too. The same with us as posters. We can get repetitive, too... (You get the idea, Russ)?...
